Knife Movies?

Iron Mistress - 1952 - Alan Ladd
It begins and ends right there for a whole generation of us. :)

As to "Platoon", there was some criticism of it at the time that it came out for having Cold Steel tantos in the VietNam War context as that was quite anachronistic.

The hunted is probably the best knife movie ive seen. The first rambo wasnt that bad either but a little too hollywoody if you catch my drift.

He wrote the book on balis, literally. :p :D

There was a movie on the Son of Sam killer a while back directed by Spike Lee...forget the title; was it "Summer of Sam"? I think there was a scene of a guy dancing or something in a club and pulling out a liner-locking one-hander of some type or other. That was very much an anachronism, as the movie takes place in 1977, years before the first modern locking liner one-hander was invented by Michael Walker.

Cyborg.A post-apocalptic sci-fi martial arts film staring a young van damme.Knives are the primary weapons of the future.

I would like to add to this list, the movie "The Edge." It had Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins in it. Great movie.

Who could forget The Edge?? Thanks for the mention of it...that's one of the great knife movies.

Other movies with knives:

Point of no Return .. Harvey Keitel attacks Bridget Fonda w/a Spyderco Standard.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre .. Besides the old straight razor, the guy in the wheelchair is always obsessing on his scout pocketknife.

Full Contact .. Chow Yun-Fat uses a Bali-song in some pretty interesting knife sequences.

Only the Strong .. Kid pulls out a Spyderco Civilian.

Wolf Creek .. A psycho in the Australian outback carries a large shiny Bowie knife..also movie shows a brief closeup of a well-worn Victorinox SAK.

Strange to see no one has mentioned "Exposure" with Peter Coyote. This is by far the best and most realistic "knife" movie I've ever seen. He even gets instruction from a "per-sev" (perforate and sever) in the Philippino style. And, it's a great movie. Unfortunately, it is not on DVD and not made anymore. I bought it used on VHS from Amazon. There are 7 currently available. BUY IT. You won't be disappointed.

What was the older movie, perhaps late 80's, where someone wanted revenge so they went to a teacher and the teacher taught him how to knife fight?

They were training with torches, IIRC.

Was it a spanish movie?

I could be wrong but it sure sounds like "Exposure" (which I posted above). The guy (Peter Coyote) has a teacher, he wants revenge (for the killing of a prostitute friend), the teacher uses a smoldering stick to burn him during one training session (not a torch), it take place in Rio De Janeiro, and it was almost the late 80's (1991). I'd bet it's the same movie.

Exposure is my absolute favorite knife movie, nothing imho even comes close.

Been trying to spread the word, as you can tell from my posts. But take note everyone: as I mentioned above, only used VHS is available and only 7 left on Amazon. If you miss out, it wasn't because no one told you. Enough said.

Good luck

Big trouble in Little China- Gerber TAC II in many scenes
Shoot to Kill-With Tom Berreenger,Sydney Poitier, and Kirstie Alley. Gerber BMF carried by Tom Berrengers character. Excellent movie.

Tom Berringer and Wiilem Defoe do indeed carry cold steel knives in platoon.
Defoe doesn't use his but in several scenes there are shots of it on his web gear.
Nord is right it seems a little odd to have cold steel knives in a Viet Nam war movie but I'm pretty sure that those are the knives in the movie.

The Character Pyramid Head from Silent Hill has just about the coolest knife/edged weapon I've ever seen in a movie or encountered in a game.
