Someone after me said tbe question was asked and that you are required to use the sharp edge of the blade. You must cut not smash.

Good to know. That gives double edged swords another advantage. They can use one edge for the harder/tougher items, while preserving a razor sharp edge for the meat, rope and other things that need it.
