Knife or Flashlight?

Still, THIS IS a knife forum. So to some of us the question seems a little odd. :)

Like coming here and asking: What do you like more, knives or bicycle helmets?

And getting replys like: Well a knife wouldn't protect your head very well in a crash now would it, so I'd have to say helmet.

Then someone would chime in with; +1  I don't so much as go to the bathroom without my helmet!

...It just strikes me as kind of funny is all. -Again, I do own pocket lights, and they can be helpfull on occasion, but I use knives multiple times a day where as I may find a use for a flashlight once every month or so. I don't find I need them much in the city because there are enough other light sources around, and not at all during the day.

As for "getting out" in the wilderness, I'd MUCH rather be without a light than without a knife. I can make a fire, and a torch with just a knife, and there is usually enough moon and starlight out for my eyes to adjust pretty well anyway.

Pluss I just think knives are cooler and more fun, as well as more usefull "to me"

I guess I'm just multi-faceted. ;) .....which may explain why I wear cargo pants and BDU/ACU's - more pockets to carry stuff! :D

I'm a "flashaholic" and a "knife knut" and start out my interest in knives and lights about the same time in my young life. Now that I'm in my 40's and the abundance and advancement of both have taken off exponentially, I'm in my glory!

I'm with ya.
I have multiple interests and hobbies that often overlap/intersect.
I wouldn't want to give up my knives, flashlights, multitools, shop tools, firearms, computers, photo equip., etc. as all are very useful and enjoyable tools; and would find it difficult to do without any one of them.

Yeah, some people get it (you, me, freedom, Christian, etc.) and some people don't (BryFry). ;) J/K of course BF.

I EDC in my pockets or on me a folder (Buck Vantage Pro, Kershaw Skyline/Leek, ZT0300, Spyderco Endura 4 G-10 or BM 710D2), a SAK (Classic, Farmer or Cadet), a light or 2 (Quark Mini123 and/or ITP A3 EOS), a Vic Spirit multi-tool, Fisher Trekker pen, NyLA wallet, cell phone, cash, paracord stitched bracelet, paracord stitched band watch, Oakley Inmate sunglasses (tame the light by day and tame the dark by night ).

Plus I have a Maxpedition Falcon II backpack that I carry to work and on trips which has all kinds of stuff like a FAK, more lights, more knives and various survival/EDC items.

I feel sorry for those of you that get by with just one measly little knife, and that's it. ;) :p :D

Both. I always have at least my Mini Grip and either my recently acquired 4Sevens Quark AA*2 or a little Energizer 1 watt light with me. Always. I use a light at least as much, if not more, than I use a knife.

Left pocket always has Vic Ranger and Fenix P2D. Right pocket always has a lighter, a pen, eye drops. Back right always had alternate EDC of the day.

I have been in the bathroom at the store and had the power go out. No problem for me. I won't be without a light or a knife.

Do people ever call you Batman? haha ....just kidding, collecting and carrying all that stuff is cool, just never occured to me that people were into lights so hard core. :)

And for the record I have tons of other hobbies and interests, just none that I am as passionate about, or join a forum for, like knives. ...well accept for cars maybe. :D

"...Knife or Flashlight?...for the night"???

some specialized flashlights do provide an intense blinding light and impacting backends for SD purposes.
but a flashlight is an illuminating tool period.

a knife probably outweights a flashlight in general overall utility in areas of multi tasking.

FTI, the tool logic SL folder with led models is just the thing which sorts of works in a compromise,
even if the led's brightness level, leaves much to be desired at this point of time.
and yeah, it makes a rather comforting bedside companion, and that to always have batteries fully charged so that the light functions at optimum levels.

I know this is a knife forum, but which do you find more useful, a knife or a flashlight?
Since I am asleep most of the night, I would say a knife. I carry a Charge Tti (which I guess is a bit more than a knife) and I have a Surefire E1L Outdoorsman (which needs batteries :o)
So tell us what you think and what you carry.

Most useful as opposed to most often used?

I find the light more useful.
When I need to see, I need to see NOW.
When I need to cut, it can usually wait a bit.

I carry both on a daily basis. I use my knife more frequently than I use the flashlight. But if I could only put one in my pocket it would be the light.

That is like asking "which is more important, a hammer or a nail!"

Seriously, probably the knife. All things being equal, I am in light most of the time.

I think it's more llike "which is more important, a hammer or a screwdriver"

Never go out without my Fenix LD10 light, Benchmade 940 knife and Ruger LCP .380. ----30 years in law enforcement makes one want to be prepared.
