I have a few hangups, pet peeves that will prevent me from buying a knife.
One of my biggest gripes is tangs that stick out above the handle when closed.
Check out the pic of the Bugout below.
I really wanted to like the Bugout but will never buy one for this reason alone.
Illogical? Yep, I know. But I just can't do it regardless of how good the knife is otherwise.
What are some of your pet peeves that would prevent you from buying a knife?

Ihave had several Leatherman Wave models over the years. I tend to lose one evry 18 months or so. Myh latest one has a bit (a very small bit) of an issue with quality in the way the blades open and close.

To nit-pick further, they have changed the scissors tool from the more robust design of the original Wave to a tiny little snipper more useful to a knitting grandma than any other user.

Wish they would go to a more sophisticated blade steel too.

None of this has been a deal breaker for me, just a "peeve."

A gnawing and growing pet peeve has become knife makers. and their devoted fans, who manufacture and tout the high quality of the knives and the premium asking price despite the makers stagnant lineup of models and steadfast reliance on blade steel that was cutting edge in the 1960s. Tradition, reputation and legend can only go so far.

A high shine with meticulous fit and finish are of course important, but design innovation and the progressive exploration of superior methods and materials are also important.

I can’t stand when a knife has absolutely no finger gaurd, like the ZT 0640.
I had a blackwash version, and I really wanted to like it seeing as how it was so good looking, and it ran on washers, it had really good action, etc. Great knife….
But I would never trust it for doing hard work, especially if I’m outside or in a hurry….
One mistake and there goes your hand, or at least some fingers :-(
I knew that when I bought it, but I guess I was hoping I would “lock in” to it better.

Mine isn't so much a peeve, but maybe personal preference .. I don't like flippers. Never have. My son has a couple lower end priced ones he brings to be sharpened and I try to play with them and still not my thing. So I clean them up, sharpen them , oil them and he happily flips em like a pro.

You can swwp in the S30v bkade from a Charge Ti. I paid $35 for the blade. I wws going to buy the Charge Ti but it is heavierthan the Wave, in spite of the titanium.

Thumbstuds
Glassbreakers
Axis locks
...
Large choils (Spydercos are ok though)
Benchmade
Assisted
To me, those are all good things. :-)

Especially this winter I have been carrying an ESEE-4 instead of my usual Kansbol on cold mornings because the ESEE-4 has a good ice breaker.

I don't like liner locks or frame locks. I have trouble getting enough traction with my thumb on the lock bar to release the lock. Axis locks, compression locks, and button locks are so much easier.

When the tang is flush it is called a sunken or a sunk joint.

I also prefer my knives to have sunken joints. Sunk is probably correct but sunken sounds right. Either is acceptable.

The knife in your picture has a common joint.

Tbh I dont have any, if I don't like a knife I won't buy it. I obviously try to handle and/or research quite a lot before I purchase. I'm sure there would be some issues with knives if I was to focus on them but I don't.

I might just be easily pleased😏

For me it’s a deep carry clip with exposed screw heads like the Bugout pictured in the first post. I’m a huge fan of the Bugout and feel it’s close to a perfect edc however the screws holding the clip destroy my pocket.

Cheers, Mac
