Throw out all you own, including the clothes on your back, and live in a refrigerator box and MAYBE you'll have nothing made in China. 'Course some of said box may contain materials sourced from China.
A very silly argument these days.
You must've missed the 2nd part; the
"With made in "the free world" prices", portion of my pet peeve.
I get the PRC's place in the current global market regarding mass production, and I don't care that things are made there perse. I also understand with some things (like most electronics and such), there simply aren't many, if any other options, although I do try to avoid when and where ever feasibly possible if the options are available... (I also do own some sub $100, even sub $40 prc knives myself, as well as several TV's, Sony surround sound, 3 refrigerators and a stand up freezer, 2 microwaves, a coffee maker, and a partridge in a pear tree, etc.)
My "peeve" isn't the products, it's the pricing of the products. When they are charging comparable prices for comparable production products, (not handmade customs), and knowing that the avg. annual factory wage in PRC is currently right around 57k CNY give or take, and a quick search shows the current exchange rate is still only around 1 CNY = $0.14, and knowing how much worker compensation drives up ovethead, that equates to around $8k/yr for the worker's annual wages in usd, so yes, it irks me when I see those companies still charging $250, $300, $400+ for mass production pieces, it just gets under my skin, (but hey, at least they got "free" healthcare).
That said, do you. It's not an "argument" at all, it's simply "MY" pet peeve, just as the OP asked, and implied right in the title of the thread. It's not much different than someone else not liking flippers or bearings or Ti or G10 scales, or "supersteels" when the steels of yesteryear still work, I just don't like seeing these high priced production pieces from places that I know pay their workers 15-20% in wages, but still charge upwards of 80%+ in some cases for the finished product.
What irks me though has zero bearing on how you should live your life and spend your money, so have at it and buy what you like. I'm gonna continue to buy what I like. If you want to buy a Reate, or whatever, then go for it...
