Knife pet peeves....

Non-Ambidextrous folders
Non - Ambidextrous sheaths
Poor fitting sheaths/pouches when brand new.
Parts that loosen up "early" - screws, pivots. I've gotten in a habit of checking now on each new one, and Loctiting pivots/screws if they are even slightly loose. If they are tight, I will use if for a couple of weeks to see if it loosens up any, then Loctite it. Eventually.........
Unsharp out of box
Poor finishing - rough spots that are too sharp/alignment on blades, bolsters, etc.
Locks that wear out quickly under "normal" use
If it's a non-assisted opener - unreachable thumbstuds/holes (the Spydercos I own "got it right", my Ka-Bar/Dozier is good, my BM min-Pika isn't,) or positioned in a way to make them difficult to open.
Screws that strip out easily (heads/threads)
Clips that don't.

Paul

Now imagine putting these all together and make a knife... :p

I hate writing on the blades. I wanted to get a Crain LS1 until i saw it had "Life Support System One" written on the blade.

It just looks generic in my opinion.

sheaths that have a snap over belt loop. Mutt lost his crk that way.
blade wobble.
Knives where the edge hits something on the way to closing it.
fixed blades where you have a poor grip and yet no guard

Those little upswept horns BM often put on thier handles just over the pivot.
My standard grip is my thumb slightly forward on the spine of the blade for control, just where those ***** horns are. Great way of spoiling a good knife.

And as others have said, any writing on the blade, the bigger the writing, the more I hate it. A discreet makers mark or steel type back on the ricasso is fine, but any other writing on the body of the blade is my number one reason not to buy a knife, no matter how good the rest is.

I agree with all the obvious, blade wobbles etc. Writing on the blade bothers me as well. Like on my Camillus EDC, the part where it says "Every Day Carry" makes it look goofy. Having to pay outragous prices for half decent knives since i live in Canada bothers me. Allthough my favorite knife for all 'round use is my EDC, i don't really like frame locks, it seems like that thin little peice of metal will just snap right off. Being paranoid about things like that also sucks.

I'm sure i could ramble on forever but i'd pretty much just be repeating what most of you guys have allready said.

$400 knives that come with mediocre edges (direct from the maker). Dang, we are obviously are knife nuts for even willing to consider laying out that kind of money for ONE knife and it doesn't even come sharp?! Almost put me off buying handmades, luckily an RJ Martin kozuka changed my mind...

thom, double action out the front. push action lever fwd, blade comes out, pull back, in it goes

Agreed on the bladed etching/printing. It's usually something cheesy, and always unnecessary.

Enough of the "high-tech" already. It was cool for a few weeks, but now I'm of the opinion that "plastic is plastic".

Liner locks.

Pet peeves include:

The use of the phrases "High Speed, Low Drag" when describing a knife in an ad.

The phrase "hard use knives". It's just an excuse for some makers to leave an edge too thick for normal use, ie cutting things.

Chisel grinds that aren't ground correctly.

Liner locks with liners that wear out after very little use.

Off center blade grinds, tips..

Old makers that put out crappy knives (Sorry guys, Schrade goes on that list for me..)

Large writing on the blade. I already know what knife I bought, I don't need a paragraph to remind me.

Poorly designed fixed blade sheaths.

I'm quite the opposite...

One thing that bugs me is a Really Well made factory sheath that works!!
Another one is knifemakers who know how to make a decent Kydex sheath!

Nothing irrateas me more... :D :D

ttyle

Eric....

Clips that are too big, or tip-down carry.

1. Tip down makes NO sense to me...you take it out, and it's in your hand the wrong way. What the hickety hack's up with this trend?

2. Spiderhole vs. thumbstud. Thumbstuds work fast and easily. Holes are lower profile, but annoying and not as effective, especially for tight pivots. I have yet to see a thumbstud I don't like b/c it's too "harsh" or "painful." If your thumb can't take it, stop flicking it open (playing with it) 1000 times a day!
And, (I might ruffle a few feathers here...) if your thumb can't take a "harsh thumbstud," trade in your knife for one with a pink handle, this sounds like something my girlfriend would complain about. No offense to women intended...My girlfriend's prissy :D

non round holes.
the hole rotates around your thumb as you use it. non round ones, have this weird feel to it.

cocky and arrogant knife makers who don't deliver on time.
suprised no one mentioned black blades
ooh and the switchblade law

Open-back folders
Folders with open backs
Folding knives without the back closed in
Folders that have nothing filling the back
Space between folder scales with nothing in it
Folders you can see through when the blade is open

That's about it.

:)

1. Balisongs considered as switchblades or gravity knives
2. Black coated blades
3. Blade billboards
