Post #73, Doc 13 is the winner of this little guy! Thank you all who participated.
Alright, it's about time I gave something back to this great community. I have been thinking about this since I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Blade show this year.
I had the opportunity to tag along with Jeff Saul, whom I now consider a very good friend. We started the experience visiting Tony and Reese in their hotel room Thursday night. I met some great people that have helped me along my journey of knifemaking like Brett Dowell, whom I would love to hang out with more next year, Enrique Peña who inspected my knives and gave me some good pointers, and of course Tony and Reese. I was actually surprised that Tony knew who I was when I introduced myself. And a few other great guys.
At that point I could have gone home happy. But fortunately I stayed and experienced the craziness that is Blade show. Walking into the show I felt very overwhelmed. I had some people I specifically wanted to meet and I didn't even get around to all of them. I had the chance to talk with Bill Ruple which was one of the highlights as well. If you ever want to meet a down to earth guy that treats you like a long lost friend, go talk to Bill. He is one heck of a great guy! Plus he likes to give Enrique a bad time which is a hoot.
I regretted not having more time to talk to some other people at the show. One of which was Don Hanson. I had the chance to meet him at the Bose drawing but would have loved to look at his knife and soak in a little knowledge. I guess there's always next year.
Well, enough of that. Now time for the drawing. Thanks to Brad I have grown to like knife picks. I wanted to make one of my own and have been brainstorming what I wanted to do. Then, Sunday night it came to me.
I've always been a big fan of pry tools and figured that in the spirit of mixing modern and traditional I would try and pull those two things together. I wanted something that would work and look like a knife pick but be usable as a pry tool and screwdriver. This is what I came up with.
The pick measures 3" long and 5/8" wide by just a little over 5/16" thick. It's made from 3 32" O1 bar stock. Future versions will more than likely be slightly thicker CPM 154CM.
So if you would like a chance to win this little guy just post in this thread and your first post number will be your entry number. I'll end the GAW Friday to give people that are interested plenty of time. I am always interested in trying new designs for knives so if you feel so inclined, tell me what would be a good knife for me to make.
Also, if you have any feedback on the knife pick please let me know as well. I plan to send plans of this off to get waterjet cut, so I have a bunch of these in stock.
Lastly, thank you to all of you, collectors and knife makers, who have supported and encouraged me in knife making. It is something I thoroughly enjoy and I owe a very large part of that to all of you here at BF.
Thanks!
Jared

Here is a pic of it with my daily carry, a 3 3/4" linerless zulu. (knife is NOT part of the GAW)
