Knife related New Years resolutions?

Really, it would be best for me if I only bought one nice custom, and finished the project knives I have laying around. I have more knives than I would ever wear out and the practical side of me doesn't like it.

My resolution is to sell or give away more than I buy this year. I hope to start 2011 with only knives I really like, knives I use frequently, or that are spares for the other categories.

My other resolution (more like wish, actually) is to start making some knives from the box of M2 HSS power hacksaw blades I bought a couple of years ago. I've made one hunting knife, but it was pretty crude and I hope to make a nicer one next time.

I have the following which include:

- No 'impulse' buying, like many people have mentioned.
- Focus more on either high-end productions like CRK or custom folders.
- Upgrade to a 'Gold' account.
- Work more overtime to feed my hobby.;)

Need to make more money to feed my Benchmade addiction...
There are other companies and makers I try to support, but my Benchmade collection is the one I cherish the most :)

I'm done buying knives. I end up not using some and then can't even sell them for what I paid for them which a lot of times is less than they can be bought at any of the online stores. Losing money on a brand new knife isn't exciting.

I've got more than enough knives and don't see the need for more at this point. I was about to buy the M4 griptilians but then realized the small is a little too small and the large is kind of bulky and I would much rather carry my Rift which I now have in M4. Yeah I might be able to make 50 bucks on them one day down the road but then I have money tied up in them and 50 bucks isn't that much money for the hassle.

I do plan on improving my sharpening skills and maybe trying to make a few knives again. I have a huge shop at my disposal including MIG/TIG/Stick welders, torches/plasma cutter, 2 mills, lathe, and just about every hand and power tool out there. I even have a forge I built a few years ago. I just need to buy some materials and try something new with the knives. Only problem is I don't have a good belt sander and I wasn't too good at flat grinding the last time I tried.

I don't really believe in New Years Resolutions, but there are
some things I've implemented in regards to knife buying a lot
of which are thanks to this forum.

For one thing I do my homework now before pulling the trigger
on any knife. Only time I may impulse buy is if it is 25 bucks
or less and I've already heard good things about it.

There are many knives that I bought and kind of regretted later cause
my money could have bought much better and I realized this
after doing research on bladeforums and watching good youtube
reviews on knives. Lesson learned.

I resolve to find out where I need to go to sell my childrens' organs for science experiments in order to finance my knife addiction. Or do I need to sell the whole child? Whatever. Anyone know?

I think you start with your own kidney first, then you move up from there
depending on how bad your condition is. :D

My resolutions:
1. Spend as little as possible on knives and other stuff - work on getting the CC balance down.
2. Go camping heaps and USE the knives I have, also learn and practice various bushcraft skills (firestarting, knot tying, etc)

I'll even start early - Christmas with the family then head to the bush for a couple of days.

no more buying this year...i'm focusing on taking my ability with steel full time :) building a new grinder, new 3 burner propane forge, building a new quench tank (water and oil) and going to play more with differential tempering 1095.

Hopefully 2010 I can put out a few blades to friends in the game and get some good feedback.

I will only buy a knife "on sale" if I would have considered it at full street price.

Must expand my horizons, looking for knives from different companies.

Limit myself to 2 knives in 2010. We'll see how many of those rules I break!

No more than 2 a month...

Well, maybe 24 a year...

But if I sell one that goes against the count...

I promise...

I am getting a little bored of the whole knife buying thing. I dont believe in the whole NYR thing but I do plan on not buying many more knives. I am just going to buy a couple that I have ordered and then I am finished. I am also going to sell most of my knives. I may only keep just one or two knives. I find I just enjoy things more when they are exclusive. Having lots is fun, and i enjoy them a lot when I first get em, but the joy has been wattered down over the years. Time for a change for me. I still love knives and I will always use em but I think the knife chapter in my life is finished :(.

i sold most of my stuff already.
i'm just gonna stick to quality.
i just ordered that small busse.
i want one more folder, one big or mid-sized fixed blade
and i'm done.
maybe get a gun next.

-Make sure not to purchase any more knives. That 33OT needs some love.
-Improve on sharpening. It's really not that difficult to do, but to do it well is something else.
-Remember to do a 1K giveaway. Perhaps in the middle of January.
