Hi all....I've been "lurking" for a while now.....figured I'd go ahead and pull the trigger on my first post/question. I don't travel extensively, but when I do get a chance to get out-and-about I typically search out three things....1) the local knife shop 2) the local microbrewery and 3) the local BBQ joint. Anyway, I was wondering what knife-related travel destinations (retail shops, showrooms, factories, tours, museums, etc.) you all would recommend to others. For instance, I don't live anywhere near SMKW....but I imagine it to be pretty impressive and hope to see it someday.....so what else is out there?

Great topic. We'll be traveling cross-country from California to ? this fall. I like the same things you do so I'm looking forward to hearing some recommendations...Might help plan the trip...

plannerboy, where are you starting? i think that be a help to start local and branch out

Davs id suggest Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa, or possibly san diego/LA lots of knife makers in each

Country Knives in Lancaster, PA and the Edged Weapons museum just down the road (stop by most any Amish farm for some good produce and baked goods)

Edgeworks in Frederick, then some good camping spots in the mountains to test out said knives

Willey Knives on the Eastern Shore in Delaware, close to the DE shore points and Ocean City MD/Assateauge NP, and Chincoteague VA. The whole dern eastern shore for some good crabbing, fishing, boating etc.

Cabelas in Hamburg, PA, and any number of gun and knife shops in Reading

Roots (Lancaster)and Morningstar (York) farmers markets, a couple knife dealers selling some good stuff, not swap meet crap

Harrisburg sportsmens show in February, if a blizzard doesn't prevent you from getting there, like they have for me

Bass Pro Shops in Hanover MD and Harrisburg PA

Chesapeake Knife show in Timonium MD every December

contact the countless knife makers in MD, PA, DE, VA, WV and ask if you can come over. Cup of coffee in the morning, a case of beer when they are done.

Hi there,

If you want to plan a trip where knives will be displayed and available, start saving your dough for the Blade Show 2012 in Atlanta, GA. You'll get to see almost everyone and everything having to do with knives in one visit and ATL is a great place to visit for the history, food, music and people.

If you ever get to France (a perfect holiday destination), then the city of Thiers is the national cutlery capital.

Great recommendations so far....thank you all! I'm not really planning anything, but live in the west (WY) and frequently get into the Denver area. Got family in upstate NY, so I get back there once in a while (Southern Tier Area, along PA border). So Lancaster is definitely doable! My next business trip will probably be to the LA area.....but that is several months out. Would LOVE to go to the Blade show!

How about anything in the Vegas area? Our City in WY has CHEAP direct flights to Vegas.....so that would probably be an easy trip too.......

BTW...Ed Fowler's ranch isn't too far away from here....about an hour away. Wonder if he has time for visitors????

Thanks again to all of you that took the time to respond!

Yes: There is almost always time for visitors, please call ahead of time to make sure we will be available.
