Hey guys, so I see tonnes of picks of people eating/ doing food prep with their EDC's. I was wondering if you're a type of person who does that, who do you clean your blade to make sure it is clean enough to eat from?

I work in a medical lab, and so I have a work only knife. But other than that, just a napkin/paper towel wipe is all I worry about.

Nope just a wipe

Like any other food knife utensil, I wash them with soap and water if they are dirty.

I typically just wipe the lint off on my shirt sleeve. After all, it's not like I'm using my knife on hazardous materials or cultivating the Ebola virus in my pocket. :D

Compared to the filth and germs that can be found on the average doorknob or shopping cart handle, my knife is clean enough for open cavity-surgery.

Of course if I did use my knife on something really dirty/gross/hazardous then I would take appropriate steps to clean it.

Work on car use knife as gasket scraper wipe it on shirt real quick then eat with it

My grandpa always carried a two blade Trapper. One for removing skin cancer, and 10 min later the other for eating dinner. Not sure if he kept them in the proper roles though.[emoji19]

I have never given it any thought. Good question.

The most I have done is spray it with a garden hose from time to time or pour a beer over it.

thank god your kid is okay. I cut the hell out of myself with my very first knife but I was older than him and I learned to respect them from then on. Let's hope he's old enough to remember this for life.

I usually consider my knife clean enough to use to cut food right out of the pocket. If I use it for cutting something dirty, I will usually clean it very soon after to ensure that I don't forget. After cutting food, a simple wipe off will do.

Many times when cutting food at a restaurant, if food quickly dries on my knife I discretely dip the blade into my glass of water (or tea) to wet it down, then wipe off with my napkin. Works like a charm, and gives my knife a quick cryo treatment to help increase edge retention as well ;)

While I eat the occasional apple, cured meats with a EDC folder, Prepping food with a folder can get you sick, in particular prepping raw meats and fish and then not washing it with soap or Alcohol.

Also I don't have the link, but if you wear your pants more than a day or two, Feces has been detected in the pockets.

Its a good thing that we have strong immune systems when we are young & healthy. If you are getting on in your years or have one or more chronic illness's.

Be careful!

First things first, Rhino, quit crapping your pants.
I just wash my blades in dish water, wipe with alcohol or mineral spirits if it's tape glue or such.

I wash it with stuff I use to wash things.
Soap and hot water, hand sanitizer, isopropyl alcohol...whatever I have around.

I don't open bags of poop with my knife like old Boris did, so I'm not too worried anyway. :D

I might wipe it off.... Ever go camping?

Very often, yes.
I always have hand sanitizer in my bag.
I also have a roll of toilet paper in there...if you have to crap in the woods, you'll want both those things. ;)
