Knife Sanitation?

I wash it with stuff I use to wash things.
Soap and hot water, hand sanitizer, isopropyl alcohol...whatever I have around.

I don't open bags of poop with my knife like old Boris did, so I'm not too worried anyway. :D

Thanks for the memories!

For me it depends on what I have done with the knife before hand. Usually I do nothing to clean it before use. I will wash the knife after though. That is more important to me.

I've learned to love 10w oil sandwiches over the years so the little whatever on my knife is nothing

One shop I worked at had so much oil particulates and smoke floating around that the coffee pot had oil on top of the coffee.
Just a thin layer, but it did not improve the taste of the coffee.

Well, if its a knife that has bearings a little bit of steak juice is all it takes to ruin it for ever. just a paper weight after that.....

Very often, yes.
I always have hand sanitizer in my bag.
I also have a roll of toilet paper in there...if you have to crap in the woods, you'll want both those things. ;)

You do know that wasn't aimed at you, right? :)

But thanks for sharing....which do you use where??

There's a recent thread about bug-out bag contents currently active here if you'd like to get that around.....

Before cutting food: dry napkin wipe.
After food: I wipe mine with hand sanitizer, but only 'cuz I have it at my desk and a dry napkin is usually not effective.

I generally only cut steak with the blade not the pivot. I am also very good at cleaning the pivot area if it happens to get gunked up. YMMV.

I have never given it any thought. Good question.

The most I have done is spray it with a garden hose from time to time or pour a beer over it.

Waste of a good perfectly good beer if you ask me! :D:thumbup:

I carry a few alcohol prep pads in backpack. I use them to clean the blade before food if it's been a while since I've washed it and after cutting oily or sticky food that I don't want to wipe off on my shirt or jeans.

Hand sanitizer for hands and blades.
Toilet paper for wiping of the butthole. ;)

Diluted bleach solution and then wipe with olive oil or equivalent food grade oil. Cheap and effective.

One cap of bleach per gallon of H2O makes a great sanitizer. After being in the food business I can tell you there is a difference between clean and sanitized. Working with food requires sanitized to be safe. When camping I make up a bucket of sanitizing bleach solution and after eating and cooking utensils get washed with soap and water, they get dipped in the bucket and air dried. Over the years I have often been responsible for food prep in camp. I take great care not to give anybody the Hershey Squirts from unsafe food handling or sanitation.
