Knife Shields

cool david. the ribbon is perfect. if you could cut that out inside of a blade that would be ideal. all i would need is a pink inlay to put inside once i get the bevel ground. a pink phenolic handle with a ribbon shield inlay would be cool for the handle too.

David - Those should work nicely. We can help you get more shields to add to your offerings. I'd be happy to field test one of those "kits" for ya :)

..... I'll be a Bose in no time.

What does that mean:confused:

Cool stuff!

Both the shields and the old school method of cutting the pockets.

Thanks for the link Possum! That is too cool! I read it about 5 times before I finally got the mental video to roll smoothly on how those gadgets work... but how freaking cool.

I've never seen anything like that before.

Personally I think it would be easier to make them out of small drill rod much the same as that page describes... rather than splitting heavier stock.

I'd like to see just how sharp the edges are on those tools.

Yes the drill rods length are used as springs to separate the ends. The ends are done so that the sharp tips go into the template and the shoulder on the ends acts as a stop on top or the template and keeps the tips from going to deep. You place the template, then squeeze the parsers ends together and place the tips in the shield hole, then as you press on the parser and turn it the tips move and cut into the scale and being very small follow the edges of the template springing open and closed as the border changes. as they cut in the shoulders on the ends act as depth stops when they hit the top of the template. I suppose you may have to chisel out the center portion.

Even if you weren't going to use the 410 shields, the templates of varying sizes and shapes would be, as my late grandfather used to say, as handy as a hip pocket on a shirt:D I have a small slab of 1/8 thick ivory that is begging to be inlayed somewhere...lol.

Heres some new ones.
