Just got back from the Knife Expo in Pasadena. The first highlight was being able to talk to Ernie Emerson and his wife Mary. They are the coolest
The real highlight was getting to meet up with Ray Laconico and pick up a knife I had ordered from him a couple weeks ago. I saw the Project W that Jake had made and I wanted one for myself with a little different hole pattern. I also asked Ray to make a clip style sheath. This knife will be the perfect knife to attach to my pack strap. It was very cool getting to meet Ray in person and chat about knives too. And I already discussed ordering another knife from him :D

Next I was able to score a very lightly used Entrek Javelina at a really great price. This knife always appealed to me as a great field user. I also got an Al Mar mini SERE which I had been wanting for a long time.

It was a great show. Now I need to get out and use all these!

Those Laconico's are awesome knives ... nice score.

 I like that Entrek Javelina alot.

Great pic-ups. Everytime I see one I wanna get one of the Laconicos. Eventually..

Sweeeet!!!

I'm jealous - I've got one of Ray's blades similar to the first one you have posted here. Actually I think it's the same but it doesn't have the four smaller holes, only the larger holes.

I've told myself that I'm not buying any knives this year.....

Yeah right.... I'm going to try though :)

Thats a whole lot of steel for one day of shopping! That necker looks top notch.

WHAT! So did I!!! Ray was there? I did not know Ray was there. I picked up a couple blades, don't have time to post just yet but I will add them soon. I had my bladeforums patch on my bag hoping somebody would spot it, guess it diddn't work. hahaha

We should have done a roll call so we could have met up. I was only there for about an hour and a half or so. I left when I was out of money :)

That Project W is sexy!! Love the combo of the holes.

Nice collection of Laconicos.

I used to live in pasadena. Nice place..

tknife, it was great to meet and talk with you. Sorry I didn't get a chance to say goodbye. We just sort of got separated when I was looking at some stuff and I didn't see you again. Congrats on the knives. All I got were supplies. I couldn't afford any of the folders and I couldn't justify buying any of the fixed blade (I can just make my own right?) althought I did find some really nice ones:o.
CBryant, I was there as a spectator so you wouldn't have known me even if we bumped into each other. I think next time I'll wear a t-shirt that says Bladeforums or something. :D

That makes sense, I was going to say I was blind to have missed your name and not recognized it from the forums. It was a good time. I love this show. There is a much smaller one put on by The California Knifemakers Association in Brea in June. Not really worth your drive from Visalia, but locals might be interested.

Ok, here are the goods. Three blades from Dennis Cook's booth. Two of his own making and one from his wife. The top knife made by him was actually featured in the March issue of Tactical Knives (page 78), they did a two page feature on Dennis and his wife Lynn. I went a bit overboard with getting three, but I just could not walk away from them (actually I did, but kept coming back). Luckily I save for a while before the show, ready for my lack of self control at convention center full of knives. :) The other two blades are their versions of a Green River. The smaller of the two has a kydex pocket sheath that clips onto the side of the pocket, really nice. I can't wait to get these guys dirty, and it just so happens I'm going on a quick camping trip Monday...woohooo!

Brian Forrest a friend of mine was there, he makes hawks like the two in the pic. I got these from him a while back, not at the show today.

I was there on Friday. I bought a Green River and a "Small Utility Bowie" from Jeff Morgan. Both are 1095. The Green River has a Lignum Vitae handle, which is supposed to be about the densest, hardest wood you can get. Scores around 4500 on the Janka scale (I think pine is around 500-900 and hard maple about 1500). Lignum Vitae will sink in water. The Small Utility Bowie has an African Bloodwood grip. [Before you ask, I don't own a digital camera---sorry.]
