Knife show scores (Laconico content)

Man, those are sweet. Ray is the bomb. Those little Cooks look great too!

Nice Cooks! I spent a while looking at those and Barry Dawsons blades, they are heavy duty for sure.

I kept looking at those knives by Cook and his wife. I probably saw you there and didn't even know it. I really liked this one little bowie by Mike Mooney.

There was also a guy there, comes from Montana (I don't remember his name) but he has the full line of Gransfors Bruks. I was so tempted to grab another GB Mini, but I had blown through my knife allowance :D

Jake, Ray had an example of that other knife you designed, that looks a little like a Master Hunter. Super cool blade, that will probably be my next one with maybe just a little longer blade. If you ever get a table there Ray, you will sell out quick man!

I was there on Friday. I bought a Green River and a "Small Utility Bowie" from Jeff Morgan. Both are 1095. The Green River has a Lignum Vitae handle, which is supposed to be about the densest, hardest wood you can get. Scores around 4500 on the Janka scale (I think pine is around 500-900 and hard maple about 1500). Lignum Vitae will sink in water. The Small Utility Bowie has an African Bloodwood grip. [Before you ask, I don't own a digital camera---sorry.]

I have a Koyote bushcrafter in Lignum Vitae. You are right about it being hard, I think it is at the top of the Janka scale if I remember correctly, soon followed by ipe. It is a beautiful wood, I love Lignum Vitae. Great score you made.

I was at Cook's booth for a while, good chance you saw me hahahaha. I remember the name Mooney from last year's show. I must have missed him this time around, if I remember his name that well I must have liked his stuff.

Was that the guy near the North wall? Had a Mini GB for like $110. A lot cheaper than you can find online.....still way too much for that little thing....can't say I diddn't think about it though!

C Bryant,

I have a couple of your buddy Brian's hawks (a spike and a damascus). I'd really like to see him make a hawk for field use, rather than just fighters and display hawks. If he had a few out here with thinner wood cutting edges, I may well have bought another. Would you mind asking him whether he would consider producing some woodcraft hawks?

Thanks

I sure can. They make fantastic fighters, I keep mine in my truck with me when I travel since I can't legally carry gun. But yes, I too would like to see a more field oriented hawk. I think he has used farrier rasps for hawks before, which would make a decent kindling axe. I will run it by him.

man.. nice looking knives guys... i like em' all...

does anybody have a link to this show, i might be into checking out next year...:D

I don't have a link but it's put on by the Southern California Blades Knife Club and it's called Knife Expo. Held in Pasadena.
