Knife - Stolen or Lost

Thanks for the kind thoughts .
I have had some folks check around and see what they could turn up....nothing.
My wife is an attorney, and I know about PIs. They can't really do much in a case like this. It is not quite like the TV shows. And, at thier rates, the cost of the knife would soon be eaten up. Many want $2000 retainer to give you 10 hours of ckecking into things....and then will tell you what it might cost in the final investigation.
To be honest, the liability issue of false charges and slander are not worth it either.

Here is what I plan on doing. The next time I need a truck, I will go to the same place. I will stare hard at the nervous gal ( assuming she is still there). If she seems to react strangely, I will point blank ask her, " Is there anything you want to tell me?" If she falters at all, I will go back to the police and see what they can do.

In the mean time, I will make a better knife.I will not dwell on the one that is gone.
The real way to beat dishonest people is to prove you are above them ( even if they never know....you will). The worst way to traet dishonest people is to try and get even....and prove you are below them. If their actions affect me...they win. If I rise above it and become a better and tougher person...I win. It's that simple.

That is a shame to lose. Maybe you said but who was the last person in the truck? Did you rent the truck and return it to the lot? Who cleaned it or reparked it? The girls or the lot lizard?

I'm really sorry for your loss and I cannot imagine what would I do if my 2 years of work has been disappeared. But there is wisdom in your way of thinking that all the humanity has to have. Thank you Stacy for sharing your wisdom with us...

Wow... Sorry to hear that Stacy. I remember you posting a pic of this knife a while ago. It looked beautiful. I hope you find it.

That's terrible Stacy! I hope it turns up and that the guilty party (if there is one) gets what's coming.

So sorry to hear you lost a valuable knife but foutunately not your priceless attitude.

Stacey,

I'm sorry we can't help you. As mentioned, a picture will help all of us, if we see it you can bet we will do what we can to help get it back. I also saw the post by Don Hanson about specialized insurance, but my question is why isn't this (in this instance), covered by your home insurance? If my truck was stolen from my garage, I would be reimbursed by my insurance company.

I had no idea P.I.'s were so expensive, what a crock! Good luck, and who knows, right? In the meantime, I too admire your additude and can't wait to see NO. 2.

Best regards,

Dave

I am so sorry to hear this Stacy. I wish there was something I can do. It really sounds like you are bigger man than I am, I am not sure I could just walk away. I hope it all turns out right for you.

I am not sure I could just walk away. I hope it all turns out right for you.

I would have probably pulled a knife on the can't-make-eye-contact-lady to give me my knife back.... Calmness is the key. ;)

I know sorry wont bring it back.
But I am so sorry man that was one work of art there.
And all the time and money I am so sorry,I hope You find it.

Was your name/logo stamped/etched on the knife anywhere? Fingers crossed for you getting it back, that was a cool one.... I cringe to think of someone prying the diamonds out of that and pawning them :barf: ...I'm still at the point in my knife making career where I really hate to mess up a set of $30 scales, I can't imagine loosing such a valuable piece.

Good luck, hopefully it's hiding under a rock in your shop still.
