I have been working on a vault room for a few years now and have had a million ideas on how to store and display knives. The problem is nothing I have tried seems to accomplish what I want. I would love to see how you guys store and display your Busse knives.

Garth

Ask skunk, his "room" is amazing.

I've seen it, well thought out.

I would like to see Skunks display! I am sure it is nothing short of amazing!

Same thing here Garth, just can't seem to come to a decision on what to do. Sorry for not being of any help, but there are others with the same malfunction:(

I want to see pics of skunks drawers too!!

And I am not talking about your underwear either skunk

My idea is to just find an empty space on a wall somewhere, put up a bunch of hooks, and hang the knives with lanyards. We don't have children around the house, but even then, it's either gonna be in a no-traffic corner or wall, like the wall behind a dresser or something.

As much as I'd like a display case or anything proper like that, the various sizes of knives plus the constant buying and selling make it difficult to deal with a storage and display system that isn't modular.

I use peg board my self, more updated pics later

I am still in the INFI hiding in luggage stage, so I am not much help.

Dave's peg boards, Trevor's tables, Skunk's drawers and several others' safes are always full of neat stuff.

WOW! looks like im gonna have to get moving if i want the same problem you guys are having. ive got some serious blade shopping to do

Garth

If you are dedicating a room to that I guess there are many considerations - security vs. accessibility, mobility of the collection, storage vs display, condition control e.g. dust, humidity and also the theme / decor of the room etc. If nothing satisfies you then perhaps you will require all custom.

I don't display mine but my storage considerations are:
- security
- easily organized e.g. by size, manufacturer, etc.
- versatility - storage that can accommodate new arrivals in the correct place without complete repacking
- expandability - add storage space easily as the collection expands
- any and every knife easily accessible
- eliminate any wear & tear from storage (e.g. stacking them in a pile)
- condition control e.g. dust and humidity, ability to store while oiled / lubricated
- mobility - moving subsets of the collection and the entire collection easily and quickly

So I use tool chests and Pelican cases as they meet all my requirements.

I leave open spaces every so often to accommodate the new arrivals. Shallow drawers for knives and deep drawers for sheaths, lubricants and sharpening items.

I can get to any knife I want immediately but I can also move a subset, drag the chopper chest to the chopping tree in the backyard, or grab a pelican case that goes in the hold of a plane, or load the entire collection relatively quickly onto a truck. I have other Pelican cases that are configured for road trips with knives, flashlights, batteries and other useful items.

They can be stacked and expanded, or if the collection shrinks, they can be still used to store other things like tools, etc (as opposed to custom knife specific displays).

They can be locked, can be moved or can be bolted down.

But of course none of that is decor display quality with a spouse approval rating. Better for basements, garages etc.

Here are mine:

Garth I have some ideas but they would require some serious fabrication which means time and resources and money. There isn't anything that comes to mind that would suit a "Display Vault" without some serious custom work.

Share some of these ideas!

The cheapest way I thought of would be with used or surplus geology specimen lockers. Huge drawers with a lot of horizontal dimension, and just enough vertical so the space is not wasted and would fit big knives. I have been asking one of those rock doctors to give me one of the old ones from the 50's. Cool cabinets. I don't use this method, but when I saw what those cabinets looked like, a knife collection was the first thing I thought of putting in them. Hope that helps you on your quest Garth.
