Knife suggestions around $500

I agree with Kettleman; unless you already have one, Sebenza is always the answer. Pretty much one of the only knives in this price bracket that's actually worth it. Prices have increased a lot, but its still the best overall folder on the market.

For somebody who comes from Hinderer and has never used a CRK, Zaan is the better answer. Just look at the hardware.

Everyone looking at knives in this price range should try CRK to experience their unique qualitites, but if you're a Hinderer fan, the Spartan Harsey folder or Les George might be more up your alley. If you can find a one of the Lionsteel-made Pohl Force titanium framelocks, those also have a similar tactical vibe.

Edit: Of course mitchnola mitchnola would slide in the Les George rec just before me, lol

Had a Zaan, didn't do it for me. You'll never break a Sebenza unless you try. To each their own. A Sebbi would be something a little different, considering OP apparently already has 5 Hinderers.

I'd probably look for a nice used Benchmade balisong. Always wanted one, but they've always been out of reach; their value goes up as fast as my ability to afford one.

Try the Lucha from Kershaw it's a great mid/lower range Bali.

If you like Hinderer there are three that come to my mind -

1 - CRK - I would personally recommend the Inkosi or Sebenza, but you can't go wrong with the Zaan either

2 - Spartan Harsey Folder - feels a lot like a Hinderer in many ways, coupled with some CRK flavor (the gents at Spartan actually studied with CRK; and Mr. Harsey is a mainstay with designs done for CRK as well)

3 - Honorable mentions: Medford Infraction (stout and similar in size, but with a stellar hollow grind); Arno Bernard iMamba (much more elegant than a Hinderer)

There are full customs and hand made productions available on the secondary in this range. There was an SPK Lamia available in the exchange yesterday for under $700, which is about the finest performance knife available.

You could also put together a modified Spyderco or 940 with your choice of scales and a reblade in a steel you like for this price. Just be forewarned, that any customization you do will be barely recoverable on the secondary market, even if you part out the knife.

CRK or Carothers are great choices if you are at all on the fence, as there is a robust resale market for each.

If you are patient and do your research, there are some good deals to be had.

Good luck!

Buy more Hinderers. I hope you grabbed a harpoon spanto XM-18 3.5" from DLT just now if you did not have one yet (I missed it due to a damn meeting). People will suggest CRKs but I've had a difficult time warming up with the thumbstuds on CRKs. I recently bought a Microtech SOCOM Bravo. It's made in China but it's tip-up and the quality is impeccable.
I thought about it but I already have a 3.5 spanto and a 3.0 Eklipse harpoon spanto. If I do grab another Hinderer it will probably be a Bowie or wharncliffe they have a few on eBay and the prices aren’t to inflated

That Infraction does look pretty sweet.

Your Hinderers look great. I’ve been wanting to try a non-flipper but they seem to be hard to come by new from dealers. I’ll keep looking.
