Knife to carry when on a date

I'm surprised Jill has not gnawed on the guy that made the stripper comment yet. :p

Of your given options, my wife's suggestion is the Brian Tighe mini Tighe-Rod.
She suggested that one even more than a keychain knife...is it any wonder that I love the woman? :)

If you mean me, I was asking the dude who said he knew a few women with knives but they were dancers. I didn't really understand it. Why would dancers be the only women to have knives?

No, I wasn't talking about you I was talking about the one you were quoting. I just assumed he meant strippers since I think they might have a legit reason for carrying a knife.

I can't help what sort of women he associates with.

I just thought since you seemed to take offense at what I said (reading too much into it) that surely him saying the women he knows that carry knives are strippers that it would be much easier to read too much into that as well. ;):p

Everyone born without claws has a legitimate reason to carry a knife.

I'm thinking for self defense purposes. Obviously, it's always good to have a knife in your pocket but I can see strippers carrying them to defend themselves with, even if it is a bad idea.

Claws work for that too...so my point stands. :D

Have to remember also a lot of people aren't used to being around knives so being scared of knives are a pretty common thing. So I don't really agree with the comments on if she doesn't like knives, she must not support your hobby, never works out, etc.

I have brought quite a few people around to understanding how useful a knife is who were down right intimidated and scared at the thought of handling or being around a SAK, you just have to explain what it is, how it's used, how useful it is, and how not all knives are weapons but can serve as tools. And lastly be an already trusted friend, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc someone they have trust in so it's easier for them to trust your opinion and not think your some lunatic with a weapon.

... Of the exotic kind? I don't get it.

I'm sure there are lots of girls who own, are comfortable with, or even like knives. My lady friend likes to judge my latest purchase or trade. But it's best to be subtle at first I'd say. Like the first hand experience above.

Oh no, they were all ballerina dancers.

Whatever you carry, be sure to absently flip it open a lot while talking about yourself.

LOL A sure fire recipe for success! Just make sure she never gets a chance to get a word in. Who cares what's going on with her anyway. Unless you like shoes. :barf:

I'm trying to decide which of these would be best on a date, in the event I have to use it.

Brian Tighe mini Tighe-Rod
Spyderco Gayle Bradley
Spyderco Nilakka
Spyderco PM2 Camo/Satin

I think my Manix2 has too wide of of a blade and might be intimidating. This is a first date.
I'm avoiding black blades as well, so my blur, recon 1 and bm 530 are out. The dragonfly seems a little too insubstantial.

Or, if this is a prison "date," go with the biggest one you have.

What kind of knife on a first date? Why don't you bring a claw hammer, some single women actually like tools and fixing things. She'll understand.

I wonder how different it is twixt different regions of the u.s. I'm sure it's different by small to large city. where I am, in NC, small-medium place with the county seat having close 70,000 people, and the other towns and cities mostly being between 5,000-10,000, and a lot of rural area, it's more of an expectation for someone to have a useable knife on them. say, if a female needs to use a knife for something, it's "may I use your knife?" rather than "do you have a knife?" in my area, and in my experience/career, I notice probably a third of females having some kind of blade (with males probably being around 90%) granted, I deal with less savory people than most people do while working, so it may be a bit skewed, but I'm sure a lot of other areas have a lower rate of knife ownership.
