Knife to carry when on a date

Pick a knife that matches your outfit, lol.

But seriously, just carry what you'd normally carry. I learned the hard way to not change to impress a woman.

If you are worried about her judging you for carrying a knife shes not the girl for you. If she whips out a Spyderco, Marry her. :D

Can't help but notice no females commented on this post. Just a bunch of dudes assuming what women like/think. Any ladies out there who could be a bit more insightful?

You are aware that girls that posts on BF will not be a fair representation of women view on knives :D

There's also a lot of guys that aren't into knives. Or firearms either. I never could tolerate dating a guy that is scared of either one. My Husband is more of a gun guy than a knife, but he likes knives even though he won't spend gun money on them. That is reserved for, well guns.

As far as showing a girl a knife when out on a date, I'd suggest letting her get to know you pretty well first. If you just whip out a large one hand opening folder before that, she may just think you're going to use it on her. Or, at the very least you're going to use it on somebody with little reason. Plenty of men I've shown my big bad folders to, have been less than receptive. So, I just don't show a large knife to just anybody. That's just the mindset of a lot of people, male or female. If you carry a big knife you're a bit crazy and might just stab someone! They especially will think that if they don't know you very well.

Dude, bring your standard carry EDC, provided its not a big 'ol Rambo fixed blade survival knife. If its such a deal breaker for her (you carrying), it'll never be a good match in the long run. Think about it, you're a knife dude. If she's so anti-knife, no amount of 'persuading' will turn her and you're gonna be in a world of hurt.

Betcha you're worried about nothing. Every girl I know either doesn't care, or even think its a good idea having a pocket knife anyway. It's not like you're gonna go on a knife-wielding rampage or anything. And she'll be comforted to know you have a knife handy to open this or that should need arise, or when shtf at least you can protect yourself, and her. Just don't bring it if you know you're gonna get 'wanded' or go thru a metal detector - at a club, or big sporting event. Getting challenged and detained by security WILL be a deal-breaker.

Your knife is the last thing you need to worry about.
At least carry a big fun blade in case the night goes to the gutter.
I carried my biggest and baddest and she married me. So be careful . Either route can end up with a wild ending.

I agree with this... open carried fixed blade or bust! what's wrong with the rest of ya'll, lol? in seriousness, I never once thought about which knife I was going to carry to a date. maybe times have changed in the last 15+/- years, but I never had a girl act apprehensive because I had a pocket knife, and my normal carry has always been around an 8 incher. if a girl had acted like a spaz over a pocket knife, I probably wouldn't have asked her on a second date anyway, because she would probably do the same with other hobbies and habits. i remember giving at least 2 girls pocket knives within the first couple weeks of dating (one asked for one the second time i took her out) but maybe females these days aren't as into openly outdoorsy/handy/ sporty guys. thinking back my years i first started dating, whenever i would forget and put a pocket knife on and get to high school, i could just hand it to a teacher to hold for me till the end of the day... now kids get expelled for it... so i guess times are different. maybe i'll get you in hot water, but that's the way i always was in dating, and dating as an adult may be completely different, as i only dated from 16-21. good luck with your date.
edit: i somehow missed pages 2-4, so maybe all my points have been covered.

Showing a woman your knife on a first date is always a good ice breaker. Only thing better is if she pulls a larger Ginsu from her purse.

Date went well, never even brought up knives. Not really interested in her though, the age difference is a little to much in this situation. 13 years. Soooo, the search continues. I ended up just carrying my leatherman piranha.

Depends on what date is carrying. lol

My advice for the first date is keep it in your pants until you get to know the person better.

/In all seriousness, though, carry the one you want to carry. Be yourself. If you're not comfortable with you, then nobody else will be either.

Yup. If you're really concerned carry a SAK or just...oh my god he's not...don't carry a knife at all. :D It's a first date not a trip to the super secret "survival scenario" drop point in the middle of Alaska.;)

Next time I say a Vic Classic or something along those lines or any SAK. Their viewed as tools more than weapons and don't raise any red flags. As an added perk if food gets stuck in your teeth you have a toothpick handy. If you want a full size SAK and willing to buy one I say a Vic Compact will help you get into all the trouble you need with toothpick, bottle opener, corkscrew, and pen to write the dang check along with the other things it has. Or a Waiter will do the trick as well.

As for me I would personally carry the Vic Rally and Leatherman Micra already on my keychain and a Wenger Patriot at the absolute most.

I just cannot believe you are seriously asking this on BF... Anyway, I also recommend to pack whichever you want and don't pull it off unless the situation calls for it. Make sure to joke a bit about it before you flick it open. I also think that slipjoints or anything requiring two hand openning is going to be more widely accepted than an Spyderco Military.

Good luck,

Mikel

.

Good choice on the leatherman .it dose't allways work with the older lady .:p but there are plenty more fish in the sea . good luck with the hunt;)

It might lessen the impact of you having a knife if the color of the scales match her dress or shoes, its just the way women think.

Younger lady, not older. She's 22, I'm 35 (robbin the cradle). We are friends, we shall see what happens.
