knife vs lava

let me tell you the story behind this video. Chris Tanner from preparedmind101 and I are Facebook friends. I post up a lot of videos and pictures of lava and bushcrafting also I talk about how as a kid I would play with lava. in Hawaii specially Puna you have to prepare for a lot of natural disasters one of them being lava. seeing as not too many people have to deal with lava and you don't see much talk about it he was interested and ask if I would play with lava using da Jessica X for a video. I was hesitant at first not wanting to disrespect Pele. at first I was just going to do some fire making prep using the Jessica X and lava but with some encouragement from my friends and a blessing ritual I felt that playing with lava using a knife would not upset the goddess Pele. poking lava with a stick and making offerings is one thing doing it with a knife is another.

I thought the video was very cool. Your knife do what you want with it. Thanks for sharing!

I was born and raised around lava. I've been evacuated twice and both times the house was completely and utterly destroyed burnt and covered by lava roughly about 75 feet of it. growing up in Puna I know my way around lava it's just part of life here in Hawaii. it's all about respecting Mother Nature

I own this knife/tool. It's the Scrade schf43 AKA Jessica X. I love it! I'm sure most of you are aware of it. For 55$ you can't beat it!

Insert knife into hot liquidous lava and leave. Mark spot. After lava cools, chip out chunk of new hardened rock and chip or cut out knife.... see how it does. That might be interesting.

Cool video. Thanks for sharing. I don't know why some people are so intent on taking it, and themselves, so seriously. "OMG! He ruined the temper and joked about the value of a knife he's not selling! String him up!"

This.

Yes you can cook on lava but it does leave a funny taste in the food. I prefer to make tea while hiking on the lava flow I believe boiling water doesn't absorb as much lava flavor. Check out this video...we make grilled cheese sandwiches using hot lava.

Great first posts, thanks for posting! Always fun to see someone highlight a unique natural feature. I'm sure we all have a lot to learn.

thank you. yes it is funny how people take things too seriously

I hope your not going to try and sell that knife after cutting through Hage skin. lol. The edge will never be the same. Actually not too bad eating but you could make a mighty tough wallet out of the skin.

You could call it "The Sword in the Stone".

Wow!
We have many volcanoes here in Southern Cal but they are all dormant.
