knife you hate to love

Most of my knives are much hated by the elite on this forum. SOG, Ontario, S&W, Gerber. Makes me feel so bad.
I don't hate my Seal 2000, I just wish it would keep an edge. I carried the dang thing for almost a decade. It's good for what it was designed for, surviving sea water.

by all accounts, he is one of the least friendly people in the business.

And he has burned countless bridges with some well known and well respected makers and others in the business. Not only has he burned most of the makers he's worked with, but also people that worked for him, with him, and even some of his friends.

A lot of folks in the knife community hate him, but you can't deny that MT makes some of the best autos in the business and he can make a very beautiful custom.

Man, I am going to lose all my 'serious knife collector' street cred for admitting this, but I love my Hibben Rambo 3! I don't use it for anything, I just love the look of it. Very intimidating, yet graceful lines. And the heft, it just feels great in the hand.

It was one of the first knives I bought, way back in my teenage mall-ninja days, so it also has some sentimental value. I have since sold off or given away many of my 'junk' knives from those days, but I will never part with my Rambo 3!!

I think it is a very well designed knife, I just wish it were made of some 'real' steel, so I could use it... :(

For me its the spyderco native. It feels like a 5 dollar knife with a 50 dollar blade. But it is one of my sharpest, lightest knives. Oh yeah did I mention the pocket clip is junk also?

The original SOG Tigershark. Nice blade, horrid rubber handle and guard, but it was quite an improvement at the price point compared to previous factory offerings. to my mind, SOG was one the the early companies that figured out that Al Mar had it right when it came to making a higher quality fixed blade at a price below the custom market or even the "benchmade" knives like Randall.

My two nasty ol' Pakistan bowies. One is a gigantic POS with OLE SMOKY etched on the blade, and the other is a funky-looking Lord Of The Rings Elvish wannabe fighter-orc-zombie-de-animator-something-or-other. $5 each at a garage sale.

I have beaten the living daylights out of them, and they're still going strong. They'll take a very fine edge, but won't hold it for long with regular use.

The third is an Atlanta Cutlery kukri, that I truly do hate. It's the one I loan out when someone wants to borrow a chopper. I may mod it later. Maybe. If I don't kill it first. It won't fit in my dead knife bucket in my garage, so when I do finally beat it to death, it's going into the recycling bin.

thx - cpr

I just spent the afternoon limbing windfall fir trees in the Pacific NW with my Gerber LMFII and other knives. I was amazed at how well such a short blade that gets such bad press performed. It wasn't much of a log chopper, but it limbed the branches effortlessly. It felt good in the hand while performing the chore as well. My opinion of it went way up as a result. It kills me to say it but it completely outperformed by RC6.

Right now, the knife I'm having a love/hate relationship with is the Coldsteel Rajah 1. It's an amazing knife for all the wrong reasons.

It's giant, which oh so bad-ass, but very not practical for pocket carry. It's fun to chop with, but a folder isn't the best tool for that job. It could really hurt a bad guy, which is something I hope I never have to do. Lynn Thomas can be a jack-ass sometimes, but Andrew Demko seems know the deal. It's list price is an insult, but I got it for pretty cheap.

All in all, the Rajah is my guiltiest pleasure.

The LMF II is a great knife! Had one which i sold, and now i regret it.

I buy CRKT M16s when they're too cheap, the AUS 4 zytel ones.. as they make a great EDC that won't break the bank to lose. They take more touchups than some knives, but I'm neckdeep in pedigreed whetstones.. it ain't an issue.

I have never carried a pair of knives, EDC, till I got the M16's. Now I almost always do. I have several folders with better steel, but none that are faster opening, or cheap enough to afford multiple copies.

It would be my Gerber E-Z Out in 425M stainless.A friend gave it to me several years ago as a 40th birthday present.I carried it all last week.I don't really like it all that much, but it's not a bad knife. It's light, not hard to keep shaving sharp, and the price was right.

Just got a SOG Flash II, didn't know they were disrespected until I started reading reviews here. But I like it, it's been in my back pocket ever since it arrived. On mine, the blade play can be mostly tightened up. Not bad, not really an issue for me.

Oh several knives both now and in the past have fallen into this category for me!:D I hated loving the Strider PT for one. Great knife though and no one can say otherwise without showing a huge bias. For that matter the SnG as well and while we're talking about knives you hate to love I hate loving all these Triad lock Cold Steel knives but you can't argue they are the the best lock system to come around in a long time and all of the knives I've bought with it have been flawless! Most knives I buy that are super great and stamped made in Taiwan or China fall into this category for me.

Never really had a problem with the pocket clip on my natives....

For me it would have to be a nameless (to me at least) winchester tanto point folder. I don't mind using it and it feels good in the hand..

A few years ago when I started getting into knives I ordered a Kershaw Junkyard Dog off the internet. I had experience with the Leek and Chive and just assumed that the JYD was an AO. Got it in the mail and found out it wasn't and instantly didn't like it. I made myself carry it for a couple weeks and found out I really don't like Speed Safe anyway. The blade opens smooth and fast, the ergos are great and it has a classy but modern look to it. I now love everything about the JYD.

crkt m-16 take it with me EVERY time i go surfperch fishing at the beach, hasn't let me down once. even doubles as my oyster shucker when i need one
good thread by the way

Love the design just hate the cheap steel. AUS4  Trimmed a few branches off a tree in the yard and the edge is gone. I would love high end one with at least 154cm.

Benchmade Vex. Everybody hates it, but it´s far to strong, tight and useful to be ignored.

Just adding to the Vex-fest here. Picked one up recently for $20 on clearance and absolutely love it. It takes everything I throw at it, and comes back for more. Only wish I could change it to tip-up carry...but that's a minor thing.
