knife you hate to love

I hope I don't get too much crap for saying this, especially with how much I used to talk about my Griptilian love-affair, but...

Benchmade Mini Grip and Spyderco Delica.

Don't get me wrong--I love both knives dearly. Functional, useful blade shapes, good lockup (although the blade play on the Delica bugs me) and all-around great working knives.

But the handles, especially now that I've gotten into some higher end knives... They just look and feel so cheap.

I rarely pocket carry either knife solo anymore without something a little nicer, but they still get used plenty.

That'll probably change when I get around to picking up a Wilkins Grip for the Mini Grip. :D

I love Spydercos as far as functionality goes, but the Spydie hole is always an eyesore for me.
I hate the Spydie hole... unless my eyes are closed.
Functions well, but ugly.

me - love my Spydies

Raising the dead here a bit, but this thread was a good, guilty read.

Guilty as hell on loving the Cold Steel knives they take loads of crap in these forums, probably over LT's ads and high MSRP's but bottom line is; they are almost always riding in the front pockets of my jeans (Boker AK101 bumps them occasionally or the Tenacious). Special props go to the little Rajah 3, people talk alot of trash on AUS 8a but something about the treat the CS puts on them makes for a fine cutting edge, the knife itself is a mini tank with steel liners, thick handles and a thicker blade.

Ive got a large Buck Bantam I picked up when I upgraded my EDC to a CSAR and needed something for food prep. I used it alot because I thought it was cheap and so it got sharpened alot, it is possibly one of the sharpest blades I own and I love the blade shape. I even got all fired up one day watching destruction test and took it to work and started batoning pallets and buckets with it, it held up fine.

gerber EZ out in s30v, one of the best bang-for-your-buck knives to date IMO

I had real doubts about the Seal Pup elite , until I bought one and started using it in the woods. No serrations is the way to go with this knife. I basically ignore the tactical look of it and just use it as I would any other knife and it has far exceeded my expectations. The gimping/rasp on the top of the spine has proven useful for scraping and sparks a firesteel like nobody's business. I recommend the nylon sheath with pouch over the kydex. I don't see the belt loop lasting long. That knife is very strongly constructed with a radiused tang/blade joint inside the zytel handle. It can take severe abuse and come out laughing.:D

My gerber prodigy. Pretty much a little smaller lmf II. Made in USA . Sandvick steel . I love it. Also a gerber obsidian. Most there china stuff is sketchy. But I love these 2:)

I don't own one because the majority of folks feel this guy is a piece of garbage, but I've always wanted a Brad Duncan Whiplash. I just can't bring myself to buy one yet. Too many people hate the guy and his business practices. I should probably just pick one up. I mean I own Microtechs and I know that many a knife nut despises Anthony Marfione.

So you only buy knives based on what random anonymous people on the internet think of the owner?

Interesting.

i've got one of these in my pocket right now.

nice sharp stuff. s30v and lock is tight.

All of them. They've taken all my money.

Guess I could get it back if I ever sell them all but I don't see that happening.

my tops tracker... everyone seems to hate it cept me.
after reprofiling, its the tits! super fun knife to take out now :)

CRKT seems to take a lot of garbage from people for their "Sub-Par" materials. I always use my CRKT SOTFB outdoors and my Stiff KISS is my #1 EDC Fixed-Blade. (quality service by CRKT too.)

EDIT: On June 26, I bought a CRKT Apache II: Great Clip (Parkerized), ATS-34 Steel. ZERO blade play. Is now my EDC with my Benchmade 551.

wow, thought this thread died with a whimper.

Just bought the spyderco sprint Lum tanto, the Massad Ayoob and the G10 CS XL Espada (for Sh#$ and giggles) love my spydies, but holding the7.5 inch blade espada brings out the closet mall ninja in me and I get all giddy. now I just have to figure out what else I'm supposed to do with it until the zombie apocalypse.

Buck Omni-hunter 10 (folder) has been loyal for about 5 years. It's annoying to sharpen, but it's light, durable, and cleans up easy.
The Buck CF Nobleman is also an awesome $22 SHARP + Grippy little dude.
CRKT catches hell, but their $20 Drifter holds up pretty well...until it hits concrete at high speed.
And I'm sorry, but I gave my BM Vex to my distant (female) cousin because I hated everything about it....them...

the gerber bg knife gen 2 with 7cr17mov steel I even edc it sometimes i live in texas so its legal

You must have made Jay a happy camper. :)

I'd like to say i allowed him to go close up early. but I don't think anyone has the kind of money it would take to get Jay to take some time off.

Not to speak for Tony (whom I don't know) but there is more to it than that. Unless all the posts are BS, Duncan has a history of taking customer's money for custom knives and failing to deliver them. It's not just being unfriendly...
