Knifeless for 3 weeks! How to cope??

iirc, the leatherman style cs is TSA approved for carry on... although your mileage may vary depending on the tsa agent. you could give it a try :)

How is this approved but they took my nail clippers the last time I flew

i have no f'n clue, just checked tsa's prohibited items list and anything with a blade is still banned from carry on.
it was just something i read somewhere. maybe some one can chime in and validate/debunk this :)

As much as it makes us knife nuts cringe, 90% of people who carry knives in this country carry a Frost or other <$10 'gas station' knife for their daily cutting, and get by just fine. Buy one when you land.

If you just cant make due without a good quality knife (which I can understand), then I will echo others who have advised you to buy a SAK from a hardware/home store when you arrive.

You really can get by without nearly as much knife as we knife nuts like to carry for our own amusement. :o To try and convince myself of this, I have been carrying light and cheap the last few days - a mini Frost lock back yesterday, and today one of those slide-out type promotional knives from the local gun store. So far nothing is breaking, nothing burst into flames, and the sky is not falling. :D

If you have one of those little cheapies laying around, you could mail it in an envelope even - no need to hassle with the counter person.

Haha, don't worry, I'm staying with relatives, planning on doing laundry

Dude!

If you're staying with relatives, your options just got broader.

a) Mail knife (knives) to yourself at their address; mail it/them home when you leave.

b) If that's "weird" with them, just pick up one/some when you land and mail it/them home when you leave.

c) Buy knife/knives when you land, give as gifts when you leave.

Maybe you can stop off at the Walmart and buy a low cost replacement knife.

If your staying with relatives than it's simple. Mail something to their house before you leave and let them know it will be coming. Then just mail it back to yourself before you leave. Other option is to go knife shopping when you get there.

Go knife shopping ... there is a possibility that being away from your usual stomping grounds , you may find something you wouldnt normally have access to ..
or yeah just buy a crappie one to use while youre there
mail one IF you have faith in the mail system they wont lose it for ya

If you are having THAT much of a problem/stress, stay home & don't go.:D.:D.

cant really add anymore then whats been said, i too am on a trip and like many here have suggested, i mailed my knives to my parents place. loaded as much up as i could in one of those small flat rate boxes, 4lbs of knives for $5? no bad considering checking a bag is like $25

Again like others have said go shopping for a knife, another +1 for Plaza Cutlery in OC, and i prefer a beefier blade then what most saks provide so my go to (and i have yet to see a hardware store without one) is either a Case Sodbuster Jr. or Buck 110
