I think that a dedicated site just for knife reviews is a good idea, especially with the name knifereviews.com. To show the seriousness of your site, you might want to standardize your review methodology. This would increase your sites credibility, reliability, and allow viewers the basic option of knowing what to expect. This will also save you a lot of flack unlike Noss from knifetest.com who up to today is getting battered for his site. I think it rules in the fact that he basically shows the durability of knives. I'm on the hunt for the Busse Fusion battle mistress because of the test he did.
In terms of standardization, I personlly would like to see or atleast have the option to rate 1-10, 10 being the best for different attributes. also, it has to be stated that ratings MUST be with reference to what it is designed for. For example...
Fallkniven F1 3G
designed for general use, bush craft, survival situations.
1. Weight: 9
2. Blade length: 7
3. Handle: 5
4. Ease of Sharpening: 7
5. Steel: 9
6. Over all length: 7
7. Actual field use: 10
8. Sheath: Zytel, 7
9. Edge retention: 10
10. Over all satisfaction: 10

THis is just an example. hope this helps you out.
I was looking through this thread again and realized I didn't respond to this post.
I definately hear you on the desire for standardized reviews, however I fear that forcing people to comment on things they may not know about(or even providing them with the enticing looking option to do so) might lead to more misinformation than it would be worth.
What you propose would work well if it was just seasoned veterans who were allowed to write the reviews, however it is important to me to keep my site accessible and open to everyone.
I'm willing to entertain the idea though. If we can make it standard and it's explicit enough that an average person can intelligently contribute, I'll implement it.
My idea to do so is to create a universal scale upon which to grade. I'd be curious for input on how people would define the scale for build quality, ergonomics, value, and overall.
For example:
Build Quality:
10 - Superb, flawless in every respect
9 -
8 - Minor flaws, no effect on knife functionality
7 -
6 - Some flaws, some adjustment required
5 -
4 - Major flaws
3 -
2 - Major flaws, knife safety compromised
1 - Broken on arrival
Anyone have a proposed scale for overall, build quality, ergonomics, and value? Would also be curious to hear a proposed scale for ease of sharpening and edge retention.
Thanks guys and thanks again to the guys I missed who have written reviews.
