I will avoid Knifezilla as much as possible from this point on. I ordered about 4 knives from them (which after shipping totaled about $100) and paid for UPS Ground, the default option. I called on Friday (two days after I ordered) to find out when it shipped. They said Thursday. I think, great! UPS's delivery time from MA to NY is 1 day so it'll be there when I get home. Nothing. Ok. So I checked today because UPS is working on MLK day. Once again, no package. So I called again and they guy said it was shipped USPS Priority Mail. I was f--king speechless. A second or two later I simply said "But that's not what I paid for." He said because UPS sometimes just leaves packages at peoples doors, he always ships USPS to NYC. I basically just got off the phone as fast as possible. I didn't ask for f--king Priority Mail. I didn't f--king pay for Priority Mail. If he had just shipped the f--king package UPS like I PAID FOR, the thing would have gotten here on Friday! Not Tuesday (as I hope it will)! So because the guy decided to completely change the shipping method WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME, my knife is already going to get here at least 4 days after it should have! What the f--k is this s--t?! I didn't PAY for UPS on a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR ORDER to have it shipped f--king PRIORITY MAIL! I am so very very pissed off right now.

Anyone in NYC ordering from these people, BEWARE.

sorry for the delay man.
but as a friendly warning, the language isn't really tollerated here.
Once in a while is ok, but you will eventually get banned for it.
again, not trying to aggrivate you, just warn ya.
sorry again bud.

sounds like the guy just wanted to make sure you got your knives.

Plus UPS ground can take up to 7 days. just because it should take a day, doesn't mean it will. I can think of a couple of reasons why a package from "knifezilla" might take longer to get to you if it gets there at all.

priority mail/w tracking options and confirmation is going to be more expensive than ups ground. also priority mail, carries with it a standard insurance, that is tipically less of a pain to claim than UPS.

plus, this sort of really belongs in GB&U

The difference is that I personally know my UPS guy and I don't know my regular USPS guy. I feel comfortable with UPS. I know the guy is not about to jack my shit because we know each other personally.

When it comes down to it, I don't care what he intended to do. I didn't pay for priority mail. I just didn't f--king pay for it! I didn't want it and if I had known the guy was gonna pull that s--t, I would have SPECIFICALLY requested UPS. I don't care about the differences in the two services. Point is, I wanted and paid for UPS and because he didn't ship it that way, I'm getting my knives later than I should have.

Well,at least your gonna get the stuff that you ordered.I freaking had to pay shipping 2 times cause the dam knife got lost in the mail.:grumpy:

Do a search for knifezilla and PVKknives and you'll see that many people don't buy from them. In addition to selling many knockoff's, they have terrible customer service. Their reputation is very spotty.

Man I remember the days of allow 4-6 weeks for delivery when I use to order from a catalog as a kid. That use to be crazy compared to 3-5 day wait of today. What did you order BTW?

maybe I'm reading to far into this comment, but it seems like thats kind of a "jerk comment" he's not promoting anything other than experience he had with a specific company. As it seemed you where having problems he was just trying to be informative about an alternative.

I said that because I've read the exact same post of his in at least one other thread. IE: Cut and paste.

Is that the worst thing going on in your life right now???

maybe you would like me to UPS you a box of kleenex?

Simply put... Get over it.

MODS, this seems like a GBU thread here.
:)

Haha, does that make you feel big braun? =p

No it's not the worst minor inconvenience happening right now, not by far. Plus, I'm not writing this whole thing to whine about it, I'm writing this to warn anyone in NYC about this measure that they take without notifying their customers. A lot of people in NYC have their property stolen by their mailmen, especially stuff that says "Knifezilla" on it. At least with UPS, you know where it was every step of the way.

Don't get me started on UPS.

UPS's tracking system is a joke. Their system was designed in the 1950s before the idea of tracking was even conceived of. FedEx came on the scene with an ultramodern, bar-coded, computer-based tracking system and just blew UPS out of the water. UPS paniced and cobbled on this kluge they call tracking. UPS knows when your package crossed a major point in their system, when it entered one of their terminals, etc. But, they don't even know that until twenty-four hours later. That's not tracking.

Fed Ex can tell you where your package is at any moment, they can give you the GPS coordinates of it. Years ago, when airplane tickets were still paper, I was Fed Exed a ticket on Monday morning for a flight on Tuesday evening. It was very important that I make this meeting. I knew the tickets were coming, and so I stayed home Tuesday morning. But, the Fed Ex man came while I was letting my brother's dog who was staying with me at the time, out. I found the "we will deliver tomorrow" tag on the door hours later. I called the 800 number and the operator said, "Let's take a look... ah, your package is currently stopped at the light at 4th and Washington."

"Can I meet him somewhere, sometihing... I need those tickets."

"One moment, please.... I have just spoken to your driver, he will swing back and deliver the package in about an hour and twenty minutes."

And it was an hour and twenty-two minutes later that I had my package.

That's tracking.

UPS on the other hand? They are the masters of the "drop and dash." I don't know how they do it. I hear the bell, I run for the door (ten seconds, max) and there's the package sitting on the steps and the UPS truck is three blocks down the road already. And if the package requires a signature, then all you get is a chit saying we'll repeat this exercise ("Catch me if you can") tomorrow.

Shell, at the risk of taking the thread slightly off topic, I gotta tell you, UPS has a horrible record of theft. I collect watches, and can recount at least 10 cases where I've read of guys shipping watches (for sale, repair, whatever) that had them jacked while in the care of UPS. We're talking values of one thousand, two thousand and more.

Yeah, there's Postal theft too, but I always prefer to take my chances with them (a major gun shop in the central US also started shipping it's pistol's to dealers via Priority Mail a couple years ago and claim they've shipped thousands of them without one loss!).

But that's not even the issue here, you're simply pissed because they changed the shipping method away from what you specified without consulting you, and as a result you'll get your blades a few days later. Sucks, but it's neither the end of the world nor is it horrible customer service. Sorry you have to deal with the aggravation though, but they'll get there.

They probably send them Fed Ex. It's illegal to mail a gun via USPS.

That law opens a huge opportunity for UPS. But UPS doesn't even take pistols anymore. Why would they turn away big, handed-to-them-on-the-proverbial-silver-platter business? Because they got tired of paying the claims for the insurance on employee theft of pistols. That's dealing with the problem... not.

UPS's people are very unionized and firing someone, even for stealing out of the cargo, is very difficult for UPS.

The UPS people at the counters get an opportunity to do have some knowledge of what's in the packages. But, these people are under surveilance and they know that. So, they don't steal from the packages. BUT, they work in gangs. The folks at the counter mark potentially valuable packages, something as minor as putting the stamp on at a bit of a careless angle. Then, the people in back, who aren't under as much surveilance, do the dirty work. They split the loot up after work.

FedEx takes care of anything like that FAST. You're on the street right now and the case is forwarded to authorities for criminal prosecution.

UPSP, those guys have such a good retirement that nobody there is willing to risk his golden years for a hundred bucks worth of cheap balisongs. And if you really want security, there's Registered Mail. The Hope Diamond was sent to the Smithsonian by Registered Mail.

If given the choice between UPS and USPS, I take USPS everytime.

phil

I have sent hundreds (literally) of knives USPS Priority and never had a single problem.

The one little problem I had came when the buyer insisted on UPS. UPS misplaced the package (insured for $5000) for about a week. So much for tracking.
