In other words, you earned it!View attachment 1471385 I was cutting through some spray foam about two inches thick or so. Was cutting, poking, prying, twisting to pull it out. Done it a hundred times before. It just snapped. Not a hundred percent what happened. It did snap exactly where the arc mark was. Looking inside the blade the steel is a bit discolored up by the spine where the arc was. I’m wondering if it weakened the steel
I know I was technically “prying” but I really don’t think I was being all that rough. Oh well, it happened and here we are. I’m gonna have it turned into a razel. That blade has been through way too much to just let it sit or be thrown away. I actually have a replacement tanto blade I bought a few years back, never been used.In other words, you earned it!Now, that's real world use right there!
At least CRK will re-blade it if you so desire.
You're likely correct, the intense (although rapid) heat probably messed up the HT near the spine, weakening it.
I was cutting the leads off of some LiPo R/C batteries with one of my Benchmade 943's. Similar thing happened to me, right near the tip of the blade, arc damage, and a surprising amount given what I was doing. I re-ground the tip of the blade, and it was clearly softer than the surrounding steel.
