Thanks! These are both rhum agricole, being made made from sugar cane juice as opposed to molasses. This style has only recently come onto my radar and I've got to say, I'm interested to try more of them.
The Rhum Barbancourt is aged eight years in French oak. My neighbor and I were musing over few glasses the other day and this one should be an easier bridge for whiskey people. (We are both whiskey people.) It's rich, a little buttery, and does the thing I look for from rum in general. It's also affordable in my area. I'd put this in the "everyday sipper" category.
The Rhum JM Terroir Volcanique is something special. While it doesn't have an age statement, I don't know that it matters. It does that rum thing I mentioned but it also brings unique flavors to the table. I get some notes that border on what I get from some Irish Pot Still but also some deep spice notes that surprised me, given that this was straight up and not a "spiced rum". I'd definitely recommend trying it.
