being from the southlands and not needing warm hats so i know nothin bout them...explain the fuzzy ballpart on top. is it decorative? or functional as in used to pull off head fast with gloves? thanks....

My wife's always knitting while we're watching TV in the evenings. Every Winter she keeps a box in the back room filled with hats & scarves that she's knitted. When we get visitors, she tells them to pick a hat or scarf if they want one. This one's a thick double wool one that I claimed.
