1) Opinel (any size)
2) SAK/Leatherman (your choice)
3) Kershaw Leek
4) PM2
5) Sebenza 21 (small or large)

Got all bases covered with these 5. Sentimental value aside, these would be the 5 I would have if I were ever forced to reduce my collection down to just 5.

You can't not own a Becker BK9

That's true. If you don't own one you will surely perish.

Also a Leatherman of your choosing, and Busse Mistress in any configuration.

Spyderco military, endura/ delica. Any emerson folder. A traditional slip joint - sod buster, toothpick or barlow. Swiss army knife. Some sort of fixed blade, not sure of a brands.

A full sized leatherman tool is also a must as is something made by case and schrade as well as imperial.
I don't think that striders, flippers , or any high end knife is necessary.
I will never own a high end folding knife, because I don't have a physical need for what they offer .
I'm also not comfortable with spending so much on a user.
I know for a fact that there are a lot of knife people who feel this way which is why they're not a must have.

30 years ago the Buck 110 would be standard but knife technology has surpassed it a long time ago.

For me........

1. A quality Stockman of any quality brand.

2. Spyderco Military.

3. KA-BAR MKI with stacked leather handle.

4. KA-BAR MKII USMC

5. Ontario SP10 Marine Raider

Five is not enough there has to be six.

6. KA-BAR / Becker BK9

Fact is you can do well with just numbers 1, 3, 5.

I would scale it back just a little and say you need to own a Buck 112 Ranger ( a Folding Hunter is OK) as number one.

2. Any Alox SAK

3. Axis lock knife of some sort. Which one is up to you.

4. A Spyderco with a FFG blade. It has to have the Spyder hole and a blade at least 3 inches long (3 1/2 is better).

Not really sure what to put for number 5. I could say a high end folder like an Insingo but that is not realistic for most of us. Maybe a fixed blade of some kind but, that might not legal or practical for many. I want it to be something that most people would use. I normally do not carry a fixed blade but almost always have a folder. I got it.

5. Some kind of high quality traditional folder. Cost is less than an Insingo and much more practical to carry than a fixed blade. Be it a Congress, Barlow, etc. This could be used as a dress knife or as an EDC and be high carbon or stainless.

All of these could be considered classics in there own right and all have something unique they bring to the table. The traditional folder offers old world craftsmanship and design, Spyderco's name to fame is unbelievable ergonomics. Benchmade's Axis lock was way ahead of it's time and is great for southpaws. Victorinox presents their military proven Alox series
as an EDC that is non-threatening to sheeple and recognized world wide. The Alox SAK also proves that a traditional knife can still hold it's own in today's hi-tech world. The Buck? It is considered by many to be the grandfather of all modern knife designs. When I carry a Buck, I can't help but think about how far knives have come since the early sixties.

If we could add two more:

6. Some type of Multi-Tool (Gerber MP600, Leatherman Wave, etc.)
7. One fixed blade of your choosing.

It's a little silly. Better to ask - name your personal top 5 production knives.

Every knife enthusiast should know how to sharpen and clean/doing simple repair on his knives. :D

+1 on the leek and delica

Delica is just a great knife in every way, and the leek truly represents the quality of Kershaw's cheap knives!

These are NOT MY FAVORITES

Buck 110

Case slip joint

Emerson cqc-7

Victorinox

Benchmade 710 or spyderco delica

But Just based on icons...

1. Your preferred Axis lock (for me the 940 but any will do)

2. A Spyderco PM2

3. A SAK

4. A ZT bearing flipper

5. Any traditional pattern slip joint

I wanted to put the Sebenza on here but I know there are a lot of knife enthusiasts who will never be able to spend that kind of money on a knife.

Just because technology has advanced it doesn't mean that the buck 110 is any less of a knife.
For someone that is comfortable carrying a one hand opener a buck 110 is an excellent edc option.
If you feel that technically has advanced past the use of a buck 110, then you must not appreciate it for what it is.
I don't care what anyone says, the buck 110 will never die , and for what it is nothing better will ever come along.

Every knife enthusiast should own the knives he or she needs or wants.

Geez I've never owned most of the knives posted here 😢 I'm turning in my knife enthusiast card
