Knives every knife enthusiast should own

This thread has got me itchin for a 110!

1. Buck 110
2. Iconic Spyderco of your choosing (PM2, Military, Manix 2, Endura)
3. Sebenza 21
4. ZT 0550 or 0560
5. Cold Steel Recon 1 tanto

Now if I made a separate list for fixed blades:

1. Buck 119
2. Ka Bar marine fighting knife
3. Cold Steel trailmaster
4. Cold steel original master tanto
5. Esee izula (not crazy about the knife but it does have cult like status in the knife community)

Everyone should own a Mora and some form of a SAK.

Buying a PM2 was the worst knife buying decision I ever made, and I hate Buck 110's.

The only knife qualifies for the tile of this thread is perhaps SAKs. Most posters seemed to answer the question of "your top 3-5 favorite knives."

I'm not a fan of the buck 110 at all. If you're going for a Buck, I'd have to say the 119 special

I don't think you "have to own" a Buck 110 unless you envision using it.

Yes, the Vic Tinker or Pioneer is a good first SAK.

I had been playing with the idea of getting 110 for years, but never pulled the trigger. Finally one day I actually got to handle one, and even though I knew it was big knife, it even was bigger than I imagined. I don't think I really need one now. :D Maybe I'll consider 112.

If it's 5, and they have to be production:

1. A SAK of some sort, or multi purpose tool like a Leatherman
2. A OHO folder of some sort (Spyderco would be a nice choice, for instance)
3. A slipjoint/traditional/classic pocket knife (Buck, Case, Opinel, DoukDouk, Stockman, Barlow...)
4. A fixed blade for camping, EDC, food prep, or just all around design (Mora, Buck, KaBar, Marbles, Ontario...)
5. A bigger blade (machete, kukri, parang, axe, hatchet, bolo, E.Nep, etc.)

Covers all bases for a lifetime of bladed needs and uses, has variety and versatility paired with many possible options to choose from in each category

-A SAK (Tinker for me)
-An Opinel (#7 or #8 in carbon for me)
-A Mora (#2/0 and Companion are my go-tos)
-A Benchmade (555HG for me)
-A Spyderco (I only have the UKPK drop point, but looking forward to a Sage 5)
And you might as well throw in a Higo No Kami because it's inexpensive and cuts like a demon.

This is not a list for collectors or enthusiasts, just effective, reasonably priced tools which are easily attained by most people (which "any Busse or kin" is not, sorry).

The only reason to own a Buck 110 is if you already do. Mine is from 1999 and hasn't seen much use since the first Clinton presidency: it's hard to justify carrying a knife that takes two hands to open and close and weighs as much as lunch if there is anything else available.

However, these reasons why I don't use it myself are the same reasons why I would recommend it for a young, inexperienced user's first locking knife (after their first SAK): the weight, inconvenience, and lack of fidget factor will help to remind them that their knife is a responsibility and not a toy. So maybe it is required reading.

Someday I'll give my 110 to some dumb kid.

You'll turn that dumb kid into a smart kid.

The 110 is certainly a classic. IF you are into that sort of thing, I highly recommend one (or something very similar). I own 110's, but if I want to use such a knife, I usually take the Schrade 250T (USA). The 110 has just sort of become outdated to me. But Buck seems to sell a bunch.

Ahhh... I never got the appeal of the 110. Just not my taste.

As an enthusiast, you should own knives that you enjoy. That's why many people respond with their personal favorites imo.

Buy/use/sell/trade a bunch. Figure out what you like and keep it. Whatever floats your boat, I say.

Eventually you will probably try some version of almost everything mentioned in this thread. You are on BF after all!

Here's my list:

Benchmade Griptilian/Mini Griptilian

1. Victorinox SAK - the one of your choosing, though I recommend the Pioneer
2. Mora - I especially love the 2000, but they're all great
3. Cold Steel Recon 1 - one of my favorites
4. Spyderco Military - simply awesome
5. USMC Mk II - legend

...just my humble opinion of course.

Surely a Schrade Kious should be on the list. One of the prettiest production folders ever made.

The reason they sell so many Buck 110's is because they're a recognizable symbol of America, And they're also hands down the best folder you can get at Walmart, big 5, and any hardware store that sells knives.
I think that as long as people still use belts and folding knives are still in use, people will continue to use and love the buck 110 or something it inspired ( ie spyderco )

If you don't own a buck 110 and don't give one a chance then you have no clue what you're missing,
People need one so they can appreciate the fact that their modern folder wouldn't exist without the buck 110 having been a major game changer.
It may not be ultralight, modern, and high tech, but I see no reason not to own one and carry it every once in a while.

Not necessarily any particular knife, but one with a high speed steel blade, especially if you actually use a knife.
