Knives for bug out/get home bag?

The F1 is a great knife (maybe a bit expensive) especially if it is one of the knives that just sort of sets around and not chosen when you grab a fixed blade such as heading out on the trail or poking around the woods. The SOG mentioned above is a good choice in my opinion. Very functional and I wouldn't cry too hard if something happened to it. I have the Seal Pup Elite, and the Field Pup which I consider a good substitute for a Mora and one I like better.

My main concern with serious emergencies is staying uninjured, and having access to things that make your 21st Century life more comfortable.

No need for folders in a take home bag unless you simply keep something like a SAK in all the time. I usually have the folder thing covered with my edc's.

I keep a nice sized first aid kit along with some trauma bandages. A small green tarp ( I think 8x10), 50 feet of paracord, around a gallon of water, water purification tablets, and a small water filter straw. Several BIC lighters, several books of matches a handful of tea light candles and a small Ziploc bag of wood shavings mixed with paraffin wax. Two decent quality flashlights and spare batteries. A Kentucky road map (Probably useless but doesn't weigh anything). A folding pruning saw I think made by Fiskars and a basic Mora knife along with a small sharpening stone.

I add coveralls and a heavy coat in the winter.

I live out quite a ways and I'm more worried about getting stuck or stranded in the winter.

Also have a Glock 19 that lives in my center console

You want to have whatever is legal to carry in rule of law, no point going armed for the apocalypse if you're going to get done.

If you can edc a Junglas then fair enough. But it might scare and offend the masses if you're in a storm shelter and trying to trim your nails with it. You might also get into a bit of bother with the cops who might be a bit jumpy regarding thugs and weapons.

Virtually no natural disasters in my county (fires on the moors, rivers flooding) but if there were total SHTF and societal collapse then it would be reasonable to put J J Rambo to shame. An 18 inch machete and Cold Steel bushman as a spear would be nice.

I'm still working on my work get home bag, need some more sleeping/bivi bags/water filters (looking at some bottles that remove heavy metals). I take both a 70 litre and 30ltr rucksack with me when I go to work (live in carer) but when I'm away from home for 4 weeks at a time 100litres gets swallowed up with just day to day stuff.

My knives are my edc Victorinox Huntsman which is always in my pocket and an Enzo Trapper 115 ffg which I keep in my bedroom of the clients house.

We do have tornadoes in the UK but they aren't big ones, if I lived somewhere that did have life threatening ones then I would be more inclined to pack a big saw and full size axe, for downed trees or trying to rescue people in destroyed houses.

Fallkniven F1 for the win.

In my go bag, I have a gerber multi-tool, fallkniven f1, and my Tops MSK or Bradford Guardian 3 are always on me.
I would recommend the F1 until the cows come home. It is so very well designed and wrought.

Fällkniven generally knock it out of the park.

I’m not sure I understand this. It’s a great knife especially if it doesn’t get used? o_O

It ‘uses’ very well.

Add a shovel. A lot of people like the Glock 19. Heavy coat, hats, gloves, and long johns in the winter stored inside the truck. I just keep the long johns available as I really don't like to wear them much unless I have to.

"Sir, what are you doing getting undressed in the winter?" Officer, just puttin' on my long johns as I am going to be doing some walking... unless you want to give me a ride....

The stuck part is important and for that reason I have been seriously considering a set of tire chains for my new truck when it's new just to have available. They would stay inside my tool box on the truck mostly. You can actually spend a good chunk of change on emergency items that seldom if ever get used.

I agree. But folks are talking about just sticking a knife in their bag and essentially forgetting about it versus the one knife they might take hiking or whatever. I seldom use my F1, but I would not place it in a bugout bag. When I bought it, it was one of my most expensive fixed blades at about $300.

I see your point, thanks.

In my get home/first aid/emergency kit that I keep in my car I have a Leatherman Wingman, a Buck 285 Bantam folder and a BRKT Bravo-1 in custom kydex.

I’m in Los Angeles, so the emergency kit is in the SUV, ready for an earthquake and possibly the need to get home with collapsed freeways and contend with localized chaos, like smoke and debris.
Probably need to extend the scope as it’s a possibility I’d get home and find that flattened too.

It’s all pretty basic but one notable addition is one of those little 2 wheel push scooters. It’s silent, super light, can be tossed over fences and hell of a lot better than walking 20 miles home.

TLDR Knives: I keep a well used CS Recon 1 and an Esee 4 in the pack.

I keep a Spyderco Street, Recon 1, Leatherman Wave, Olight S1R and wrench/socket set in my car. Along with my S&W 642 with +P ammo just in case:)
Looking at it now it is a little excessive because I also daily carry a Glock 42, edc folder, Leatherman Skeletool and Thrunite Ti5. And a Spyderco Ladybug, Leatherman PS4 and Nitecore TIP on my keychain. But I guess there’s nothing wrong with having backups for your backup:D
