Knives for Troops

When my grandpa was in the ECTC (Extended Care Treatment Center) section of the VA hospital (Audie L. Murphy) when he had his 5 stints put into his ventrical arteries, he made a few friends and basically formed a group the nurses called the peanut gallery. Great bunch of guys. I always went to see them and talk with them for a while when i went to visit my grandpa there. I miss those guys. IMHO, when the vets get visitors and make good friends and socialize alot it helps them heal faster. I know how much those DV's need other people to talk to and socialize with. I hope that I get to go with you Allen when you present everything.

Please, folks... they don't have to be $1500 gents knives. They gave arms and legs, lets give them a little something.

Gig..i have something i could donate..i made one for a guy going to iraq and for some reason i made a duplicate..i will try to get it done by 7/6(my birthday) i live in the San Antonio area and could meet you and let you have it..Thanks..Luke

Allen,
I just read your post and I will definitely help out. Send your address to me and I will order a brand new Buck 110 folding hunter and have it shipped directly to you tonight. Hopefully it will reach you in time.
From this Gulf War Vet- Thank you for all that you are doing!

hey gig...
i am just waiting on the rivets for my Kydex and i have two i can send you...
they are nothing special just small edc's. but i figure an ampute has more use for something small than a huge chopper.
but i need to know where to send them too
thanks man!

I can't *make* a $1500 knife! :) I am ponying up the first 'finalized' sierra hiker (i posted pics of the first prototype a while back) and I would toss the second in but I need to sell one to upgrade my membership here. hell- *after* the first one is done and shipped (trust) I would donate the second if someone funded that.

where is this at? maybe a hammer in could be held for whoever is interested.

Scott,

On behalf of the troops, thank you so much! I have always admired you for giving the troops the deals that you do. If you can have it shipped to my office...

213 Mill Creek Dr. Ste 120, Salado, TX 76571 (physical address)
PO BOX 962, Salado, TX 76571 (regular mail address)

Please put my name, Allen Mantanona, on it and a c/o line mentioning The Intrepid.

Again, thank you so much. As for thanking me, please don't. I do not deserve nor will I accept any credit for this. This is just a case where I have a chance to be God's tool (as opposed to the normal TOOL I am). There are people to be thanked and I can assure you that they will be.

Again, so grateful,

Allen

Chris,

You are to modest. I have seen your knives and can say that they are special. As far as edc's vs. choppers, you are probably right about the use an amputee will have. Either way, I will be happy with any knife that is offered to give to these heroes.

As far as my shipping information is concerned I have just posted it but will get information from my secretary tomorrow so that my office will pay for the shipping. I was in the hospital all day today and did not get that info but will have it tomorrow for sure.

Two knives is so very generous. You are not just a great maker but also a great person. Again, thank you,

Allen

Consider it done!

BTW, I've given this some thought and I'm changing my gift to a Spyderco Endura 4. One handed opening may come in handy for some of them.

Koyote,

I am so grateful for your donation. Let me see how much funds are in the bank after I pay for the other gifts I am personally funding and hopefully will be able to afford the upgrade for you.

The Intrepid center is in San Antonio, Texas. Take the time to check out the two links in the first message of this thread. Just make sure you have something to dry your tears...

Thank you again,

Allen

Jacob,

I have left a message for Mike. He is a very busy man as are all Major Generals. I know he will get back to me as soon as he can and I will be sure to let you know.

BTW My Grandpa died 3 days before he was to have his 4th bypass at Audie Murphy. I was in Basic when I got the news. My top pulled me off of the bayonet course to tell me. God I wish I could forget the pain of that day.

Thanks you for everything Bro,

Allen

Allen,
One Spyderco Endura 4 is on its way to your posted address. I wish my gift to remain anonymous. Just tell him its from a very appreciative fellow American.
Thanks bro,
Scott

I'm so choked up. Scott, I can assure you they will understand how truly and greatly appreciative you are. I know you can feel the joy in your heart already and soon they will too.

I hate to rip off my man Sean Hannity, but "You're a great American."

God bless,

Allen

Sure thing man. So did your wife make it home today?

I have a custom blade I can donate to you. It's a great using knife, and I would love for it to see some use instead of catching dust on my shelf- I guess it has to be held to be appreciated. As soon as you have your shipping info, It is ready to be sent out. Here's some pics- they're not the best, but they'll give you an idea. My e-mail is jimbaker@jbknives.biz if you need to contact me- I don't always make it onto the forum everyday.

ARGH! I didn't get it done today, which was my (silly) goal. My son's 4th birthday and necessary bicycle work for a client interfered. Not that Leif's birthday is a problem :)

This is also the first blade that's come together in a way I really feel the ... well, that Feel.

Jim, thanks for your donation. I will make sure these brave men and women know how generous and grateful you are. I will email all with shipping instructions.

Koyote, Family always comes first. Enjoy every Birthday with your boy and you can finish it tomorrow. Thanks again,

Allen
