Knives going to Afghanistan

Sorry for the delay.
I was in Colorado last week.
Got it and replied.
Thanks again for all the help on this.

Well, an update is way overdue so here goes.
Phillip got me the first set of blades heat treated and ground.
Damn, he does nice work. There's definitely a world of difference between a hack like me and an artist like him.
Humbling.

Cut out the first group of scales:

And it's time to sit down with a bunch of 400 & 1000 grit paper.
Oh, and some supplies to help it go faster :

And we're ready for some final polishing before the scales get attached:

I think Kiah has graciously offered to build them out of tan digital camo kydex he has.
It's been a while since this started. Have to check who said what when.

I'm still on board to mold 10 sheaths if you need the help. I would like to donate the material for them as well but I don't think I can afford it right now.

Progress has been very slow moving.
I hate it when life intrudes on enjoyment.

First set of blades with the scales epoxied and corbys installed:

Corbys ground down:

-Baby 1x24 for light stuff:

And then lots of old fashioned, finger numbing, hand sanding.
Almost there:

looking good brad. let me know when you are sending them my way so i can work my magic on the edges :D

Hey brother, thanks for letting the rest of us follow along and watch the progress of this. My BIL got back from his second tour in Iraq a month ago and I was wanting to do something like this when he got deployed, just didn't know how to put it together. Good on ya for putting the time in to help our brothers in arms out and ensuring they are well equipped - even if the equipment will only have to serve as a reminder of the gratitude and appreciation of those they are serving. I'll keep watching this thread to see the end-product; hoping that the final post is a picture of the troops with their knives in hand and smiles on their faces!

God bless America!

Thanks for those kind words.
Seriously though, all I did was put out the word. Everyone here jumped up and jumped in.
The response has been humbling. This is a great community

Little update, Brian (melsdad) sent a picture of the first knife as it came off the etcher:

Kiah is working on the sheaths.
The handles need the final polishing and then Richard gets to do his magic on the edges.
