A friend and I were talking about the close connection between guns and knives. I was wondering how many of our knife people are also guns nuts. I was saying that gun people are probably some of the biggest users of knives! So hunters, shooters and the rest of you, what type of knives do you really use. Brands aren't needed, just types.

I'm really into knives, but don't own a gun. This is probably because I don't have any desire to hunt. I'll probably pick up a Glock just to shoot around with sooner or later.

I Like most types of guns but really like handguns the best, Glocks and Single actions Rugers in .45 Colt & .22cal.and the 1911 type auto's.

Well, I have a custom hunter by J. A. Lonewolf for hunting season. For some odd reason I can't toss out the Schrade Sharpfinger from the truck, so it goes too.

When I'm out at the shooting bench it's just a plain folder. An old Gerber Bolt Action. Heh, kinda odd when you think about it.... a bolt action knife and a bolt action folder. Hmmm.

Terrill,I agree with you to a point. Most gun users use knives but very few that I have seen collect knives or will spend any money on knives.I have setup my knives at gun and knife shows only to be told that my knives were too exspensive or too pretty to use and watch them buy cheap imports.Mind you that I make user style fixed blades averaging in price of 75-150$.I do well at all knife shows, but it seems to me most gun knuts would rather spend money elsewhere than knives.Just my$.02,Dave

I'd have to say that alot of people that are into firearms are also into knives. However, I know lots of sportsmen who will go out and buy nice production folders but would never buy a custom. Mainly because of the price. I have friends who when you mention $500.00 the first thing you get "man, you could buy a gun for that much cash".
As far as brands of knives: REKAT, Gerber, Cold Steel, Emerson and Benchmade.
Guns: Remington, Colt, S&W, Sig, and of course Glock

Personally, I think if you're not into guns at least as much as you're into knives, there's something wrong with you. ;)

I believe I had the same conversation with the same guy Terrill!;) I am an avid shooter and shooting competitor. I own everthing from a Muzzleloader to a machinegun! Knives and guns go together very well indeed. All the guys I shoot with like knives.

I have been a hunter and shooter since age 12 on (45 now). I have shot competitively in .22 silhouette rifle, small bore position rifle, trap, sporting clays, IDPA events and USPA action pistol events. Very interested in firearms for self defense and have a variety of handguns and long guns.

I got interested in knives as they are shown in gun magazines a lot. Bought a Spyderco Delica first, then the Benchmade 975sbt the longer version of the Emerson CQC7. Then a few Cold steel folders, then a bunch more Spydercos, then some more Axis lock Benchmades, then more Spydercos, bunch of Livesay fixed blades and some Chris Reeves One piece line models. Now I am starting on some of those ATC tomahawks. Just as interested in blades now as guns. They are more utilitarian that's for sure. I try to use as many as I can, for anything that needs cutting.

I've been a certified Gun nut for over 20 years, but only a true Knife Knut for about 2+ years.

Jeff Cooper coined the word Hoplophile (?) from the Greek word Hoplite: a heavily armed, or multi-weaponed soldier. I've always been intigued by "all" weapons. From a CRKT Peck to Fuel air explosives and everything in between.

There might be a few knife nuts that feel the same way. I hope anyway? I'd hate to find out I really was weird like my wife says. :D

I got into knives as a kid because I couldn't afford to collect guns like dad. (I'm Don Gwinn at The Firing Line.)

I used to EAT & BREATH Guns. Now I EAT & BREATH Knives. Still like firearms, of course. But the Blades are what do it for me now. When I was really into firearms, I ran the gambit...FN, Galil, Steryr Aug, All the HK's. Still have HK tattooed on my shoulder cap...always will:)

I am mostly into handmade blades. As of late, carry folders by Carson, and Mayo. Fixed... Hossom,Audra Draper, Simonich, Vandeventer. My daily carry has been Draper, Mayo, and Carson.I carry the same blades all the time. I do not feel comfortable carrying different blades at different times of the day, or for different locations. These blades are more than adequete unless going into the woods, then we go with bigger blades:).

I know brands were not necessary, but I like saying the names.:D

Many of the hunters I know would not put much $ into knives.Collectors of firearms I know are more willing to spend more on knives. There are a few exceptions to both.

Whenever I'm hunting, I usually have a Browning drop-point fixed blade and a trapper with me, and when I'm at the range, a swiss army knife is about all I ever take. And a large stockman. And my Leatherman. Always have my leatherman!:)

My hunting buddies will spend a grand on a rifle or shotgun, but shudder at the thought of a hundred dollar knife:confused:
That's why I bought them both a Blackjack AWAC (I know it is big, but they are from the big is better school)
Personally I rotate a CS Master Hunter, Newt's US Marshall or my way pretty R.O. Easler sheephorn hunter. Might need a new one though...my luck has been way bad :(
Good topic :)

I am a gun nut and gun dealer that loves to collect and use knives. Guns, and knives have always been my main interest and I can sit and talk about both all day long. It is a hard habit to support, and it has taken years to accumulate what I have. I really like 7mm Mag rifles, Glock pistols, and I am a shotgun nut. Here I am rambling again, but I just get excited about guns and knives. .......and I like hearing about other peoples inventory.

GREAT THREAD@Bladeforums!!!!!!!

Thanks,

RattlerXX

I am into knives in a big way, and want to expand into guns, but I'm having a hard time learning enough "beginner" information to get me started.

Hi, my name is Pete and I'm a gun and knife nut. Just recently got heavily into Benchmades--collection is now at 60. They don't take up near the room guns do. I still have my 1911's, old S&W 19, 29 and 63 as well as Win M70's, 52 and 63. Since messing up my back I don't hunt any more but do benchrest and plink when I have a chance. Latest purchases -- mint Mannlicher M1950 full stock carbine with dbl set triggers in 6.5 X 54 and a LNIB MT CT II Brend. There's a combination. Had an FFL for almost 25 years. Have fun, thanks for the thread.
