Not to nit pick, but you mean the M1A1, AKA M14 right? The M1 is 30-06. Although I did buy a Special M1 from CMP in Camp Perry a few years ago that was chambered in .308. It was rebarrelled by the CMP armors & used a plug in the action so the shorter .308 cartridge would work. I sure wish I wouldn't have sold that.

Yes, M1A

What's wrong with the socom 16?

It's loud.

It's heavy.

It's politically incorrect.

Everyone will HATE you at the range.

Everyone within a mile of you will HATE you.

At night, you and everyone within 100 yards will be blind.

It'll start forest fires.

It'll burn your target, even if you miss.

It has all the subtlety of dropping a piano out of a 10th floor window.

Allow me to recommend a suppressed 5.56 or .300 BO...

Nice, I think the M1 is going to be my next firearm purchase. I'm stocked pretty deep in .308, so this purchase would help eat some of that!

I was going to ask that too. I used the M14 when I was in the Marines from 1966-70m but carried the M-1 in Infantry training at Camp Lejeune. The M-1 may have won the rifle that won WW II, but I much preferred the M14.

I can pretty much attest to everything said here. Not that I've shot one; but I was RSO-ing a "carbine" match where a guy was using one. WOW!

That knife looks a bit "Holy Grail" to me.😍

Please tell me about it... 👂

Thanks! This is a knife I built a while back. It's somewhat unique in that it has a full tang and a full guard. The blade is 1084, with curly maple scales. I took a lot of inspiration from the Vietnam era fighting knives like SOG, Randall, and Blackjack. Here it is next to my M1a.
