You can get that look using a spray can & a mesh bag, like the ones oranges come in as a pattern.

Lil know holstermaking fact. As long as a holster is not molded, a Smith K Frame and a Colt 1873, are generally interchangeable.

So I finally cleared out stuff/moved it to get better access to the "hidden" closet my dad has in the corner of the workshop. Found some interesting stuff in their. Original boxes for my maternal step-grandfather's 1968 S&W Model 10-5 with 5" barrel, my paternal grandfather's 1958 S&W model 36 2" and Astra Cub .22short. Bunch of old ammo too. Can you imagine $5.99 for 25 rounds of 12ga #6 shot? How about $17.78 for the Astra? The model 36 appears to have been $29.99 and the model 10 $58.99.

Some interesting lube too. The S&W revolvers both had aftermarket rubber grips, I replaced the ones on the 36.

My paternal grandfather was a big fan of Montgomery Ward's, and a lot of this stuff he bought there, including a Western field model 600 11ga pump shotgun, made for MW by Mossberg.
