Knives of Cassius M Clay of Kentucky (1810-1903)

I thought I'd add a link to this old thread (there's more out there, but with less knife content):

And here's a gratuitous pic of a Sheffield Bowie knife ;)

Going to look for it if it's still avaliable.

Please let us know what you find Vince. https://bourbonfool.com/ Has a brief review. I don't recall seeing it between Ar, Tx, Mo and Il but I may have overlooked a bottle, especially when in stores the size of the bigger Spec's stores. Thanks
I picked it up a few years ago while in Kentucky. I was told by a salesperson that "Cassius Clay" was distributed exclusively in Kentucky.

I have had this dusty old bottle sitting up on the shelf. Wouldn’t be Kentucky without a little whisky involved. Side labels speak of Mr Clay's exploits.

Nice to see :)

I have to say that I still find it rather strange that the Russian Tsar would have given Mr Clay a Gaucho knife. He fought in the Mexican-American war, but I don't know if he ventured further south?

New member, joined because I just finished watching a fascinating story about Cassius M Clay on YouTube that is quite relevant to the OP and topic in general. If I owned one of these knives or had interest in this particular topic I’d very much want to watch it because the story of the life of Cassius Marcellus Clay is fascinating and this guy has a knack for telling stories that are entertaining (to say the least). Also, he covers Mr. Clay actually using his knives as they were perhaps historically intended to be used on a number of occasions.

You should know that he is a colorful speaker or in more plain terms, he swears a lot. If that doesn’t bother you, great! If it does…well, most of us rode the bus to school so we’ve been exposed at some point to this stuff. I just wanted to prepare anyone interested, his YouTube channel has grown kind of popular and the reason is that his historical storytelling is absolutely fascinating to the point that I’ve subscribed and watch one or two of his stories every week now.

I stumbled upon this discussion while looking for the genealogy of Cassius Clay, wondering why such an impactful and interesting man wasn’t more widely known or remembered because his impact on history is of significance, I doubt that many of today’s elected representatives or for that matter, people in general will contribute anything close to what he did to American history.

Hope someone enjoys this, it’s a shame that history is so often taught in such a way that, like museums such as White Hall, are stale, kind of mothball smelling, stagnant and uninteresting.

If history was taught in a way that brings these people and events to life, that entertain and connect with audiences like this guys pulls off…perhaps other generations would actually understand, remember, *gasp* learn from…and not need to repeat mistakes.

I digress, hope that the OP and others enjoy as much as I did:

Note: I could not figure out how to cut/paste a link into this post, I used the “insert link” function as well as simply cutting/pasting but none of this worked so I painstakingly went back and forth to type every letter in the link above, not sure it’ll even work.

If you really are interested, and I hope that someone is- after all, I created an account, wrote all of this and typed every letter in the link to the video one-by-one for the sole purpose of sharing, I thought this bunch would find it interesting…anyway, if the link doesn’t work just go to YouTube and search for “Cassius Clay the most gangster politician” and you’ll find it. The channel is called, “The Fat Electrician” and I suspect others will find his stories worth watching.

Many thanks for all your efforts in bringing this too us 🙂 And welcome to Bladeforums of course! 😊 I was also surprised at how poorly known Senator Clay was in his home country ☹️👍
