Knives of the Blade Show 2014 • Raising the Bar!

Excellent job in so many ways Jim -

as always, spectacular images of great knives - which we sometimes take for granted I suspect !

Hearing the back story and little snippets about makers, families and forum-ites adds some flavor, especially for those of us who couldn't make the show.

Finally, thanks for what you do in promoting Custom Knives of all varieties and helping to expand the collector base :thumbup:

When is the book coming out?

Thanks guys, for enjoying this display. More importantly for the hard-working makers shown.

Secondly, quite a few of the images I am showing were delivered to me from COLLECTORS. I am a visual messenger, and yet they were the ones promoting, elevating and rising the tide for their favorite makers. The previous Ken Onion sets are one example. Here come a few more:

STeven Garsson knows quality better than most. Here's his 3-knife sampling:

David Mirabile with another smokin' utility (He's a recurrent theme in this thread!)

Marcus Lin + RWL Hideout, + LSCF handles = Modern Classic

Mike Quesenberry can't be stopped! Look at that shape.

Scot Matsuoka's work is always tight, and always visual, and always ergonomic.

A major BF collector brought me these three:

Brion Tomberlin WOW'S us with this Oriental inspired piece. Please give me the style name?

All rise; Jason Knight just entered the court of public opinion....

David Mirabile is relentless.

Jim thank you so much. That is a fantastic picture of the nagabowie. A naginata inspired blade with more of a bowie style handle. Love it! It is always great to see you, Susan, and Buddy. It was also a pleasure meeting Maggie. Thank you again.

NOT a utility piece, Jim....this is a fighting knife....just not like many are used to seeing....it is based upon an aikuchi mount with a short, fat bowie blade...very fast, not for snap cuts though....it is for implementing a massive wound, either a stab or a slash...close in and quickly. That isn't a hamon we are seeing....it is a laminated blade, stainless on the outside, carbon steel in the center.

Brion Tomberlin WOW'S us with this Oriental inspired piece. Please give me the style name?

Naginata.....the blade on a Japanese polearm, like a halberd.

The pics look AWESOME!!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Old school, I mean REALLY old school, Bowie. (Mark Zalesky collection)

This blade is 7/16" wide at the ricasso. Massive.

If you like traditionals, you will LOVE Tom Ploppert's work. Both of these from a collector.

Another notable BF collector with his three faves:

Don Hanson used 5400 yr-old bog oak handles, and forged 5400 layers of steel on the cleaver.

Sam Lurquin and Jeremy Guillaume combine to smash all previous records for his appeal.

Everywhere you go: There's David Mirabile! :)

Richard Rogers is renowned for his traditional Sheffield-style folders. Don't pigeon hole him, though. WOW!

That's it for tonight. I'll be editing more tomorrow. LOTS more to come! :D

holy Richard Rogers!

Fantastic pictures, make me feel like I saw those pieces in reality.
I'm sorry to hear that you had not enough time to enjoy the show.
If that's some kind of consolation - your work will last.

Thank You.

Wow, some gorgeous stuff Coop.

Thank you for the chance to see some of the world's finest knives.

The bottom set of Ken Onion knives are to die for and Richard Rogers knives are intense!!!

WOW is right my friend! It's always a honor and pleasure to associate with you, your family, and Buddy.

Thank you, too, for all of the hard work posting these superlative pictures for all of us to enjoy and thanks to my friends Brion, David, and Jason for allowing me to take these fantastic examples of Edged Art into my collection.

Mr. Long has the Knight and Tomberlin, plus the stupendous Larquin Fighter, fitting them for suits of his World Class leather. :)

Thank you again to all!

Stunning images of spectacular blades. Thanks for all your hard work and for sharing these, Jim. Such a pleasure to see.

What an awesome looking knife! Great minds think alike? I put in an order with Charles V for a knife with almost identical spec to this! I ended up changing my mind, (again; it was originally going to be a chute) and have a cf handled lamb dropped point on the books instead :)

Thanks for taking the time to share these!
This is one of the most inspiring threads I've seen.
An exciting time to be in the knife world, isn't it?

Jim,

I cannot afford the knives pictured here, nor can I make it to the shows. Your photos have allowed me to develop an appreciation for custom knives over the last two years. Thank you so much for allowing me these glimpses into the knife world.
