Knives on my cat

"Food is good" could be a cat's motto. Now, this poor fellow loved fish so much. No more fish for you, Whitey ! Poor hyperthyroïd guy is fine now but fish is banned from the menu.
The "fish stare", back in the days. There is a knife, in the background, on a table, or in my pocket, for sure.

Vincent is on medication for hyperthyroidism. Sometimes, it's a challenge to get him to eat enough.

It's a fine line. I had him started (on the veterinarian's prescription) at 0.5 ml twice a day. After (one year ? oh, yeah, time flies by) I tend to reduce towards 0.4 ml twice a day. This medication is not exactly harmless (hey it acts on the body's hormone business). There are two benchmarks (so the veterinarian told me, and I can tell I watch Whitey closer than milk on the fire) : too much of the treatment induces drowsiness / sleepiness, too little results in weight loss while overeating. So, if Vincent is not interested in food, maybe he is a tad too medicated. Check with your vet by all means, some 1/2 ml more or less can do a world of good.

OK, cats and knives, here we are again. It's touching how he complies with my antics. He's not hunger stressed, although he may want to display it that way. I keep close watch on the diet, how can I not, the grey fluffy eats everything and strives to almost obesity and the other is hypothyrodieÏan. Sigh, life is complicated. Luckily, I'm easier to medicate (for now). A shot of Jack Daniels, just for a good night of sleep.

Thanks for the tip. We just got the notice that he's due for his six-month exam. Both he and Rosie have their levels regularly checked. She was a wreck when she landed on our doorstep, but she's packed on a few ounces. The meds and some overdue dental work have made her a new cat.
