I'm watching tonight's episode of dual survival. Its in Kentucky and dave and cody seem to have some very nice blades, but I cant Identify either of them or catch a screen shot. To me it looks like Dave has some sort of blind horse knife, and thats a guess only because I know he is a fan. Cody's knife is the one that really caught my eye; its not his usual plastic handled mora but it looks like a vey nice Scandinavian styled knife that I cant put a name on. Anyone else who saw the show have any ideas?

IIRC he has Cody has used that blade in one other episode- I believe it is a Helle Knives from Norway....same company that Les Stroud had his Temagami signature blade designed by- good Scandi blades.

Haha I just watched that show, and was wondering the same thing!

You said his usual plastic mora knife. I thought that it was wooden, but I dont know. I wanted to buy the knife he typically carries around his neck. This is what I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Mora-Made-in-...VH3Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308967835&sr=8-1.

Does that look like a real mora knife, and is it the one that Cody wears?

I stand corrected. The red color and round shape made me assume plastic, but yes that does look like his usual blade.

Helle would have been my first guess too, but I dont know many scandi knife manufacturers.

I still like the red wood handled Mora#1 that he uses most often with the hand stiched leather sheath.

The Classic Mora Knife

#1. In Sweden this was once the basic knife. If you asked to borrow a knife, odds are this is what you would get. Now the other knives with plastic handles have become more popular, but I prefer the classic lines of the wood handles. The carbon steel (not laminated) blade is just under 4" (100 mm) long, 11/16" wide and .099" thick. The 4" red painted birch handle is suited for average sized hands. Current stock comes with 3/4 tangs. Weight, with a functional black plastic sheath, is about 2 3/4 ounces.
Price: $10.00.

The knife I saw Dave using in a close up shot when he was scraping something (I can't remember, I'm tired) looked pretty short, but it had a thick blade (~.25"). It almost looked like a Busse Basic 3 or something like that. Then he was using a knife to whack something (he had it on his left hip-- he usually carries his main knife on the right side) and that knife looked longer. It could have been a Blind Horse knife-- I thought the same thing.

But for all I know the two knives were the same.

Yeah, it definitely looks like Cody has upgraded to a slightly better Scandi blade. But I think he has had that for a couple or three shows now.

Ok, thanks, I was just checking. The pictures red handle and blade looked really dark compared to the knife Cody usually has. It may just be the picture though.

The knife Dave carried was a basic 11 I think. Still trying to get the model of the one Cody carried. It looks like some type of Helle. Guess he put his Mora out to pasture.

Not in the new Kentucky show, I think it was the Blind Horse Knife he designed and Blind Horse is making it!

Cody's knife look like something from Kellam wolf pack

Here was all I could get from the man himself. It does look an awful lot like a Kellam though.

HI Gerri, im glad you like the show..its a finn knife that a friend gave to me several years back, love the scandi stuff!

In the hippo episode Dave had the Busse :) he dispatched the turtle with it. Will have to watch the Kentucky one again Friday to pay better attention to the new one.

In one of the episodes Cody complained that the spine on his Mora was too rounded to strike sparks, so he borrowed Dave's knife to make a fire. Maybe that was why he switched out his knives? I saw him carrying the new scandi knife in the Baja episode IIRC.
