I just received my weekly "sale email" from KSF and it stated that they are finalizing their move to Chattanooga. I assume Chattanooga TN. What's the deal? For me it's great, but I'll be spending entirely too much money on knives from them now.

Chattanooga has great USPS service (has large sort center in Chatt) and obviously UPS and FedEx service. I think it's a great location for their business.

Huge news for me.... we’re in Maryville

As I understand it if you deliver your packages directly to the sorting centre there is a substantial discount for shipping. Remember under normal circumstances your package actually makes two separate trips. One trip to the sorting centre, and a second trip to the customer wherever that happens to be. So by cutting out the first leg of the trip, the collection and delivery to the sorting centre, you can significantly reduce the shipping charge.
If the name of your company is "Knives Ship Free" it makes perfect sense to reduce your shipping costs as much as possible.:)

I was in Maryville ("Murr-ville" to the locals) Friday on my way to Cades Cove. Honestly, having KSF local or fairly local will be wonderful as they carry a much higher end product line than that "other big store" in Sevierville. I will be willing to bet that their retail sales (walk in) will increase substantially vs MI location. Swung by the Hiwassee River too... damn it looked inviting for trout fishing.

Not until now was I aware that they even had a brick and mortar shop(which they do). I had always thought they were online only. Wrong again. They have a nice selection of knives , so it should be great for those of you in the area-maybe not as great for your wallets :)

That's awesome! Chattanooga is only 1.5 hrs from me and I have family that live in Hickson, TN.

Chatanooga is a nice convenient location wish we could get something here in Nashville area btw for anyone in the Nashville area message me or hit my "wall" with B&M places you recommend.

I have no more info than what I posted, but it's entirely possible that KSF is simply opening another store rather than moving their operation (again). Nashville or Knoxville would be fine with me as well. Chattanooga is very touristy and I-75 is a major N-S interstate. I suspect they will draw customers (store visits) from all over if people know they exist.

They said they are moving - again - and added something in their post about hopefully won't be moving again. You guys that live nearby are lucky to be able to shop in person. Only downside is for the people that live in TN, but not near the store as I assume they will pay tax.

I got an email from them and they are focused on the Ooltewah TN area or in other words off Exit 11 on I-75. Ooltewah is just north of Chattanooga. They are going to have a "small store front". Yes, to the sales tax thing... I'll live. My personal opinion is that things are moving toward nationwide sales tax collection depending on where an item is shipped. That is pretty much thanks to Amazon and their growth. Trump is all about a "level playing field" and I tend to agree with him whether it be domestic or outside the US.

Added: The biggest plus from my point of view is being able to handle Bark River knives in person versus simply looking at pictures. I'm not a huge fan of them, but some of them really appeal to me. There will be other handmade stuff as well I would expect.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing. Seems like the days of no sales tax for online purchases are numbered. I would gladly pay sales tax to be able to buy from them in person. There's nothing like actually seeing a knife and handling it. Some states tax law require online purchases pay sales tax if you are a border state. Tennessee shares a boarder with a lot of other states...

Added - If they moved near me I might buy more knives if I could handle them in person. Maybe it would be better for them to move as far away from me as possible ;)

I remember that when they moved from the pacific Northwest to where they are now all of their employees went with them and relocated as well. I wonder if the entire gang will follow again.

They are not opening a second location.

A majority of the employees who moved with KSF from Oregon to Michigan*(myself included) have since departed the company. One employee, Tyler, who moved from Oregon to Michigan will also be moving to Nashville.

*this isn't a reflection or comment on the company, its just what you have when you only have a few employees

I'm glad we will be welcomed in TN. My wife never really "warmed" up to the great frozen north and so we are making one last move. I am super happy to be living near a city again. We miss it a lot.

I am excited to see what TN brings. I am excited to meet you TN guys!

Chattanooga is changing a lot since Volkswagen built their first US factory there (the old one for the Rabbit is long gone). You should have seen what it looked like 15 years ago at Exit 11 before Walmart opened a store there..... much has changed. Much!

For those that are interested, Exit 11 is about 11 miles north of the GA-TN state line on I-75. The numbers run from south to north. Exit 1 is where Bass Pro is located essentially just north of the state line in TN.

Welcome to the land of Cracker Barrel.

and the home of Krystal iirc which is far better than that other one that shall not be named but got in a movie title

Not a big Krystal fan. Krystal is no longer family owned, but is still based in Chattanooga as far as I know.

Was curious about sales tax collection and Amazon. Googled it and came up with a March 29, 2018 article which states Amazon will begin collecting sales tax from all states that have a sales tax beginning April 1st. Would post a link but for some reason it won't paste. So, this is why Trump is talking about USPS costs versus sales tax.
