Recommendation? Knives similar to Emerson Gypsy Jack?

Same here bro, nothing personal at all. Your entitled to your opinion of course and I respect it but also as the Emerson hate comes out, I’m gonna defend. I’ve been drawn to Emersons because of his blade and handle designs. I started buying from a local retailer, not because of any of the cheesy self defense, etc advertising techniques. I bought because they’re appealing knives to me not because they’re tacticool. Even what I know now, I still love his blade shapes and his ergos.

As I said I don’t make attempts to get others to dislike what I dislike. But I am guilty of the opposite of sharing the things I love with others. Have you ever heard of Les George? 😂
I won't require your sermon, good sir! I am here in the pew next to you! :D

Just tremendous, tremendously well executed knives. On this we completely agree. LOL

I've had the pleasure of meeting him once or twice, and I'm never prepared for as young as he looks. "You!? YOU'RE Les George?"

Won’t let me post the link for some reason, but one month ago someone asked in a thread titled “5 inch folders”:

“I was recently in a gas station with a friend, who took one look at a positively massive folder and said, “Dude, that knife is awesome!”
He challenged me to find a better knife of similar size (4.5”-6” blade) in the same price range of $25-40. I’ve been searching around in The Bay and here on the exchange for Cold Steel folder and have found the Luzon, which fits the bill, but anyone else have good suggestions?
Thanks!”

Your response:
“Ya mean they didn’t have any cold steel in the gas station next to it?“

Well look at that, we can completely disagree on one thing and then be best buds on another! 😉

Some reason I’m not surprised you’ve already heard my “sermon”! 😂

Haha, I love that you’re wasting your time doing research. That obviously was a joke (that got some laughs)😂. By no means was that an attempt to get others to dislike or not buy cold steel, nor was it a specific cold steel thread. But keep looking😉

Took a quick look because I know you’ve done what you profess to never have done before at least a few times. Cheer up, nobody’s bad mouthing Emerson anymore.

Haha, ya know it but can’t prove it!

And don’t worry, it’s Friday, the rain stopped and the sun came out. I’m as cheerful as can be but thanks bro, hopefully you are as well.

The ergos on that Emerson Gypsy Jack look really awful.

for this style of knife, I would choose a Lionsteel Gitano. Great looking, quality materials, and good price.

Wow, that's nice!

That OD canvas micarta version is a beauty, somehow really goes with the titanium on the piece. And the price is right to boot!

How is it that I am Today Old before finding out about this piece?

If you didn't know about the brand I'd strongly recommend you have a look. Lionsteel produces beautiful really well made knifes in good steel, my favorite friction folder is made by them

I can say that I know OF the brand, but not alot ABOUT the brand. I've never owned one...

At one point I was agonizing between their BestMAN, Barlow and Big Opera and was ready to add one (or more!) to my stable.

But then my state decided to go all Draconian and I started adding to my firearms/magazines/ammo stores and forgot all about needing another knife.

Got to agree that Quiet Quiet and mitchnola mitchnola have had about the most civil and entertaining discourse I've seen in a while.... but I gotta land in the QuietCamp on this one.

Whenever in the market for a style of knife, I always avoid whichever of Ernie's offerings are in the realm. Nothing about the guy or his fanbase, just experience with his stuff.

Were I the OP in this thread I'd go get that Lionsteel offering and put it through its paces.

I will say this, one thing to be aware of is that the Gitano is a slipjoint, albeit with a very stout spring. A few folks here have them, and have reported that they stand up to use just fine.

I appreciate the heads up, My Friend... but I had that one figured out :). That is a very good thing to point out to any perspective buyer/looky-loo for sure.

I seldom care if there is a lock on a folder or not, and when I was looking at the BestMAN, Barlow and Big Opera I was unconcerned about the presence/absence of any lock.

And I recall one of the things that got me looking at these was the mention by whoever posted it up that they had good materials and craftsmanship and were stout in use.

Oh yeah, I can say that from other LionSteel slippies I own and have owned, there'd be no worries at all in use. I need to get one of those at some point, that blade shape is fantastic.

Also, I uuuuhhhhh....man, I'm just going to say it. There's another choice that no one has mentioned. If you can't get a Gypsy Jack, there's another knife available in an older steel (D2), with a frame-lock (close enough!) in that sort of Navaja style.

The Kershaw Strata XL. :D

HAAHAHAHAA.... I remember that, but hadn't thought of it.

Saw it one time when I was looking for the Strata Cleaver. I would have bought that cleaver too, but I can't bring myself to buy a knife with material on only one side.

Matter of principle with me. I bought one of those Hinderer design Kershaws... the Cryo... and HATED the one sided slab thing. Still have the knife, still hate that about it.

I like Kershaw stuff just fine, and I like the look of the Strata XL.... ONE SIDE of it, anyways.

Have a look..

The Keith Richards connection was something Emerson made up. My boss's private sectary lived next door to Richards and was good friends with him and his wife. He didn't know anything about the Emerson knife. Far as I can tell Emerson came up with that after watching a Stones music video where Richards seems to have an Okapi, not a Spanish folder.
