Recommendation? Knives similar to Emerson Gypsy Jack?

The Keith Richards connection was something Emerson made up. My boss's private sectary lived next door to Richards and was good friends with him and his wife. He didn't know anything about the Emerson knife. Far as I can tell Emerson came up with that after watching a Stones music video where Richards seems to have an Okapi, not a Spanish folder.
Haha, when I was a kid, my in house nanny’s husbands 3rd cousin used to cut Keith richards grass and saw on many occasions Keith teaching Ernie the guitar and then Ernie teaching Keith hand to hand knife fighting techniques in the front yard!

Sorry but there is more to my story than that. Other than to say a magazine of that period wanted to do a story on the connection I can't go into it any farther.

Ah, the real evidence of this high profile story is confidential. Lol

Not trying to be a jerk but cmon bro, a story like that disprove another story?

I’m no Ernie fan one way or the other. I am a Emerson knife fan. I love his knives, and the company is solid with good customer service. If Ernie was known to be a true pos like some other guys in the industry than that would change my opinion but something as silly as he lied about knowing kieth richards, meh.

Which one looks like it belongs in a gas station?

Pretty obvious to me 😂

Nooooo you didn't! :p The Espada is one of their best looking ones, IMO. The photography on their site is garbage, but when you handle one in person it feels a lot nicer than any other Cold Steel, super solid with the integrated bolsters. Some of the other models like the Karve look way more gas station to me:

OP: You can also create a "saved search" in eBay so you don't have to check it every day; it'll email you if something that fits your search term gets posted. They only email once per day, though, so if someone posts a really good buy it now deal it could be sold by the time you get the email.

So they’re good in the hand huh? Interesting, I’ll have to pass by a gas station and give one a try! 😂

Just kidding, lol. If ya like em, rock em!

I'm saying the knife had no direst connection to Keith Richards. Did Emerson offer any proof it did?

I'm out of this discussion. I should have never brought it up on a knife that hasn't been in production for some time. When I sold mine on E-bay no one seemed interested. I guess I sold it too soon.

I wasn't speaking to any opinions. Facts are facts. How many Emersons have you owned?
Almost everything you’ve said in this thread has been an opinion. Surely you can’t really believe your opinions are objective.

Facts are objective and opinions are subjective ideas held by individuals and so are always biased.

How is it relevant how many Emerson knives I’ve owned? I’m not looking for a confrontation, and mean no disrespect sir. Have an excellent evening.

I have directly witnessed the rigged lotteries on multiple occasions, both in person at BLADE as well as online. Secondly, it's a fact that Emerson's materials for cost are absolutely mediocre. The guy is still using almost Kershaw level materials, but charging ZT money, because a lot of his fans seem to believe that by buying Emerson knives, they confer SWATSEAL martial arts badassery on the bearer (please see both FB pages to witness a bunch of people who have turned owning a company's products into their personality and personal lifestyle). That's hilariously stupid, and one of the reasons I left those pages. Also, it's 2023, did Ernbag ever manage to dial out all that lockstick or are we still pretending that's a "feature"? I gotta ask: did he finally break down and start giving people both liners in TI, or is he still passing off a Ti linerlock, and a steel liner on the other side* as a quality tool? Oh, any word on whether or not he's still running his 154CM (LOL) super soft for "toughness"? The idea that a chisel edge was selected for "ease of sharpening iN thE FIeLd" still cracks me up, incidentally.

See, these aren't opinions. These are all facts, which was my point. Now, maybe his latest knives have fixed all of these issues, and if so, good for him, and good for his fans. At nearly $300 for most of his popular models, they damn well should have been fixed by now. But if not, then it's only natural to be asking these questions, especially given what they charge.

Emerson fans tend to give a lot of this a pass, but we're not on USN, so we're not doing that here. Here we can have a laugh at this guy acting like his bagful of excuses for still charging what he charges for the same knife he used to sell in 1999, made of the same materials, is good value. It just isn't. All that said, this is also why I don't rail on Emerson's fans. They like what they like, and hey, works for me. I spend my money on all kinds of dumb stuff. But objective statements that these are great knives, to me, that's false. 🤷

Anyway, have a great evening yourself, friend.

Alright folks...let's lighten things up a bit, shall we? I haven't read through this thread and am not keen to do so, but I'll make a couple of quick comments...

First, I've known S Sidehill Gouger for about 25 years, and he's forgotten more about knives than most here will ever know. And second, while Quiet Quiet can be a handful, I've never known him to be a liar.

Now, discuss the topic, (not one another), or this thread will be coming to a close shortly...if not sooner.

Oops, thought this was the knives and watches thread.
I met the Stones including Keith Richards when I worked security for one of their shows in the '90s. I had been a big fan in junior high, but wasn't too excited at the time. I like them more again now probably due to nostalgia.
I never carried this Emerson much, but it has a decent action and arrived pretty sharp. I guess I like it just enough to keep it.
