The taper looks like something I won't like as I don't like the taper in the original buck119. And the guard and pommel aren't my style. What do you think about trying to customize it myself? Stacked leather handle made by myself and a new guard and pommel.Buck 119 Brahma if you can find one......
Eh not a knife that gives me the fizz as wranglestar would put it, thank you for the recommendation though.Err, Cold Steel SRK rehandled, 3V, fits in same sheath.
I've looked at that, the handle style on the buck with the taper thing is really not my thing. You can build a custom 119 on their website with S30V steel, and several different wood handles
Hard to find right now, but Hattori makes the 1700-A in Aus-8. He used make it for the now defunct Valor of Miami in the 1980s for their brand.Does anyone know of a knife like a buck 119 but with a stacked leather handle or a wood handle and good steel?
What's a "taper thing"? You mean the pommel?I've looked at that, the handle style on the buck with the taper thing is really not my thing.
I bought a standard 119 and the handle was not my thing plus it rattled around in the sheath which caused the curve of the edge to dull. I've sent it to buck and we will see what happens.Look for bowies in the 5”-7” blade length range and focus on high cost / premium options. You’ll find a saturated market of high end alternatives to the Buck 119. Pick a steel, and there’s a bowie made in it. Same with handle material.
For what it’s worth, my experience with the standard 420HC / Phenolic Buck 119 has been flawless. Extremely solid performer with amazing geometry. That knife can seriously cut, thanks to its well-executed hollow grind. In my opinion, you might be well served by picking up a standard 119 to play with. They aren’t that expensive. And then, with that experience, you could select a premium alternative with more precision, having figured out what aspects of the knife you like or don’t like.
The taper in the handle, its gets thinner as you go towards the bottom, maybe there's a purpose for it but I personally don't like it.What's a "taper thing"? You mean the pommel?
Wow that piece is beautiful but does that handle have a taper at all?Hard to find right now, but Hattori makes the 1700-A in Aus-8. He used make it for the now defunct Valor of Miami in the 1980s for their brand.

If its a good value and the steel is worth the price I think I'm interested in picking it up. Would you say for the price the steel is good and the knife and sheath are worth it?

TBH I don't remember. I had one but sold it like 8-9 years ago.Wow that piece is beautiful but does that handle have a taper at all?
