Knives similar to the Buck119

The Bark River Boone might be a good match for you. I have one and it's a nice blade. I think there were two different lengths and a plethora of handle options when they were available

If its a good value and the steel is worth the price I think I'm interested in picking it up. Would you say for the price the steel is good and the knife and sheath are worth it?

Man, like a lot of guys here, I have a buttload of knives...so much so that I don't have a lot of time with that particular blade. It would take a bit for me to get it, so I will have to go from memory...

As I recall, the knife was really nice. As you can see, it mimics many of the fighting knives of WWII. The blade is a just bit thicker than the Buck or Ka-Bar, if I recall, and the whole assembly a bit heavier. I like 440C quite a bit, and can't imagine that a knife coming out of Maniago, Italy would be lacking in quality heat treat. I would probably prefer some type of synthetic handle (*or possibly leather), but don't let that scare your off. The wood is very nice. The handle felt a bit more girthy to me. (*I wear medium-sized gloves) The pommel felt very substantial.

Overall (*going by memory), it seemed to be a very well-made knife, and worth the little "premium" in price over the Buck or the Ka-Bar. Honestly, when I bought it, I thought I'd be using it more, especially since it was stainless. Alas, I acquired my first Bark River "Quartermaster", and the rest is history.

If you're just looking for a "yea" or "nay" vote, I would say give it a try. Just going from your initial post, I think you'd be happy with it.

Happy hunting. 👍

EDIT- You mentioned the sheath, and I forgot to address it. Overall, I would give it a "good" rating. Again, I haven't had it on my belt for extended periods. 🤷‍♂️

I like the 119, but not the stock sheath, easy to find better sheaths for it….

That being said, if you don’t like the pommel and handle, I suggest to start from scratch, with a fixed blade the handle is half the knife…

- what’s your budget ?
- does it need to be hollow ground ?
- you say good steel, do you want stainless ?
- do you like the large guard of the 119 or rather not ?

For example, do you like the knife on the left ?

If not, why not ? (Just trying to figure out what you are looking for)

Cheers,

Looks nice but the blade is just a bit too short for me, thank you for introducing them to me though.

They also make a Boone II just to let you know. I believe the blade is a hair over 6".

I'm looking for a knife that I will have forever, just that one knife for most tasks so my budget might be up to 400 at the very very high end but if it's 400 dollars it better make me feel something like nothing before. But yeah I'm willing to spend once and cry once for a lifetime knife as long as I deem it worth it.

For the hollow ground, I'm not really sure to be quite honest, I don't know what difference a hollow ground brings.

Stainless steel would be much preferred yeah.

I like a guard on a knife and 119 has a guard which I'm fine with and I like it, but guards bigger than that are just not something I want.

If you're talking about my left, no because the handle isn't my style and neither is the blade style. Although I do like the one on the right, I only wish it was longer.

Thank you so much for the input. I was looking at today and saw them for around 170 mostly, would you say that is worth it for all that you get?

Note that the one on the right is a 119, just a custom version with ironwood and brass.

Search for the “Fallkniven Model SK6 Krut”, maybe just want you are looking for …

Should be around $400-450 or so. Comes with a superb leather sheath. Fallkniven has other Bowies too in different ranges, might want to check them out.

The taper looks like something I won't like as I don't like the taper in the original buck119. And the guard and pommel aren't my style. What do you think about trying to customize it myself? Stacked leather handle made by myself and a new guard and pommel.

If you don’t like the tapered handle. Thin out the fat section in the middle a little.

If you want to customize a Brahma, the pommel nut unscrews easily.

Trying to find a 119 Brahma would be difficult.

Another way would be to find an inexpensive, used 119 and do the rehandle yourself.

A stacked leather handle on a stick tang is on of the easier jobs to work.
There was a great tutorial on the Brisa website.

All of the above were done with a drill, saw, file& sandpaper.
DIY gives one a real sense of satisfaction plus you get what you want.

BTW, OP, did you consider the Buck 124 ? Handle is different (different shape in Micarta), and it's a full-tang knife (119 on the right).

good call, but he doesn't seem to like Bucks 420hc. have to get a real old one to get 440c

This seems like a good idea, if I'm able to find a brahma I might do something like that.

Ive looked at it and I like it but for the price it's not worth it to me. Im being quite picky because I want that knife that I'll use for the rest of my life or for quite a few years for everything.

I might just do that tbh, I have a buck119 which I've sent into buck so they deal with some issues, if I get it back I might attempt to put a new handle on it.

Honestly the 124 is pretty awesome.
