Knives stolen by Tsa in checked luggage

How do you know it was TSA? Was there a notice packed in the bag?

Either way doubt there is any way they will pay up.

Sometimes it's the airlines. Sometimes the airline contracts TSA to provide all or some of the services. Sometimes there are other contractors involved in other aspects. Hard to say. Depends on the locale, region, the airport, the owners, the operators, etc. Good luck trying to assign fault to the proper party without hard evidence. The carrier may have general insurance to cover things like this.

Any luggage insurance? Any proof of what was packed in the bag?

SOOL if not :(

This is 1 among many reasons why I don't like traveling by plane anymore and always use carry-on bags and do not carry any weapons w/me when I do.

if it's important enough, I ship my guns & knives to my destination via UPS or Fed Ex and back again upon my return.

Well I don't know who but I read they handle luggage, not the airline

I've had one knife and one flashlight stolen from my checked bags.

I've had my bags searched because I travel with some unusual items. Every time the bag was ransacked, the TSA left a note saying the dug through it.

Every time something was missing, there was no note.

Edit: I don't know if they'll do anything about it. My black Alox Cadet was less than $40 MSRP and I paid less than $20 on clearance and my flashlight was an AA Mini Mag with a bunch of aftermarket stuff Frankenstein'd onto it years ago. It had relegated to beater duty so I wasn't going to pursue it.

...hahaha I bet you do 😉😘

I used to travel with $3,000 to $4,000 worth of paint spraying equipment in my checked bag.

I guess it’s hard to be upset over a $20 knife when the thieves pass on a $750 spray gun.

😁

Buy new there and ship them home, we can always use more.
I do understand wanting your proven and familiar firearm on a hunting trip.

When traveling for work, it’s in body shops.

I’ve begun to travel without a knife in my checked bag and stop at a Walmart when I get there to buy one of their Ozark Trail $4.94 blister pack knives.

Before I leave I give it to one of the body shop techs. It’s like a $5 rent-a-knife program.

Unfortunately, there are many folks who have access to baggage, and having worked investigations at international airports many a time, unless there is video available, there's likely no way to determine who may have taken your items. Still it's worth pursuing and seeing what you can find out.

I'm at a friend's wedding so wanted to take something a little nice. Both my new altus and synergy 3 with Damascus blades RIP.
Called southwest and filed report. Maybe get some miles back or anything 😕

Big mistake to put anything in your luggage you don't want to lose. I hate flying any more, would rather drive even if it takes several days to get there.

I’ve had two trips to Minnesota this year. A 6.5 hour drive each way. I could have flown and rented a car on the company card but, I prefer to drive as well. Even if it means driving in January or February when the weather can turn a 6.5 hour drive into a nightmare.

When I travel usually to Alaska to see my relatives I buy a decent knife when I get there to use while I’m there and just before flying back I give it away to one of my family or friends I’ve made up there. At least tsa isn’t gonna get it.
One time I took a leatherman wingman in my checked luggage and they must not have cared for it cause it made it round trip. 😆

Less than 7 hours driving trips, I definitely prefer driving. To and from the airport, waiting in the line, Security checks, anxiety, and now plus the risk of knives being stolen from checked bags as well as covid19 just doesn't not make flying a good choice (it doesn't save much time either).
