Knives stolen by Tsa in checked luggage

I take it a bit further packing only a piece of prehardened bar stock and a few sheets of sand paper. Although I bring Magnacut I write 1095 on it as an extra precaution.

NOW you're thinkin'!!! 🤣

I've traveled a lot of miles both in country and international without losing anything I can call stolen. The one exception was a trip back from Northern Thailand that I had to change planes in Shanghai on. The Shanghai cops had a fit about the big knives I bought on the trip and placed in my checked luggage. I thought I was headed for Chinese jail but they finally decided to let me keep a 10-inch chef knife and Chinese cleaver. They confiscated several "jungle" knives of roughly the same size. Nothing like having about 25 Chinese cops holding you down while they shake out your luggage. No more trips that change planes in China for me.

Because you never put a knife in your checked luggage or because you never fly with southwest?
I don't fly with Southwest. I always fly with either several knives or usually with a few firearms.I put them in a locked box plastic box and never had an issue.

It's been commented here a few times that this is 100% the safest way to be sure nothing vanishes in transit. The sticky finger people don't want the extra heat a firearm will cause them. They want to stay in the background skimming the low hanging fruit.

I fly exclusively with Southwest about 25 times per year. Bring a Sebenza and a SAK with me in my checked bags. Never had a problem in the last 3 years. I carry a key chain tool in my pocket that uses utility knife blades, had a TSA agent tell me I had to remove the blade in it before I could board once, let me go and dispose of it (the blade) and then he cleared it to go back in my pocket. They look harder at my Maratec Titanium pen that is clearly meant to be used as a kubaton or as a stabbing tool in an emergency than anything else I’ve carried onboard or in my checked luggage. I get one of the TSA inspection notices at least once per month.

Never had a knife or a firearm stolen from luggage.

Just to update Southwest waited the full month before emailing me a standard "Not our responsibility, you're sol, sorry" (paraphrasing)
To which i considered just dropping it but sent another response " So if i lock my luggage from now on will you pay or do your employees just get to steal when they find something they want"
Within 15 minutes they sent another standard response, this time with a 150$ credit.
So at least i got something back, only out 50$ now...
