Knives that are one feature away from being amazing

Ah, I haven't seen people post about this knife as much as they used to. Or rather, the Seal Pup. Really nice at their price point, I'm surprised more people don't recommend them.

Anyway, I believe the Seal Pup Elite has a plain edged version, no?

Yup, they do. it is few and far betwen though. I own one and EDC it.

I would buy a SOG Pentagon in a heartbeat if it had two plain edges instead of that serrated edge. Funny thing is, SOG sells a version of the Pentagon in Russia with no serrations. What gives SOG? Why do the Russians get such special treatment.

And I agree with ECHoil about the Al Mar SERE. I'd love to have one with a 4" blade. Although I do like the SERE that I have.

I agree about the pentagon though there is the spec-elite that has a PE. I have the large version. It is beast of a knife.

The SOG Seal Pup Elite is a no frills kind of knife. Got it years ago when they first came out (satin-plain edge) with both sheaths. I used to recommend it a lot.

Here's what I've heard so far a few times in this thread:
I want a Kershaw-Emerson style knife made in the USA, made of better steel, and bigger.

It sounds like these guys want an Emerson, no?

I'm just being facetious, but it struck me as funny

Personally, I wish that XM-18's and XM-24's could be ordered without the flipper. Detent issues and all that can of worms aside, sometimes I just don't want a flipper on my knife.

CRKT Eros: tip-up carry pocket clip. It's not just that it looks better and carries better; it completely eliminates the "hot spot" nature of the stock clip.

any Reate knife with lefty clip option.

i think you get the theme here.

The fact that the SCHF42 needs loctite right out of the box is a huge let down.
Kershaw's bead blast finish is a huge pain in the ass if you live in where i am. My CQC7K has rust over the stainless steel frame lock every once in awhile

a customizable buck 110. i can get an s30v blade, osage orange handles, nickel-silver bolsters, finger grooves. however, i wish the FG handle wasn't too thin midway, and i wish the finger grooving would be sculpted all the way to the sides.

Kershaw Leek with a drop point blade, and I concur about a BM 710 with a straight edge option.

Agree. The thing they need the most.
It's the only drawback to a nearly perfect knife, IMO.
Hold outs open my favorite CS folders, and I zip tie modded all the ones I have to make them wave open out of the pocket.
Please CS do that little modification and I will buy them all over again!

My 0566 has a weak detent making it terrible for de-assisting...and I want it de-assisted! Would be great otherwise.

I also would prefer if more BM models had a smooth transition from the handle to the blade on the spine. My thumb naturally goes there doing a lot of tasks, and there is often an uncomfortable bump. 940 and Mini Barrage for example.

I often feel like the handle and blade are designed in different rooms by different people and in the end they just stick random ones together.

I have a Benchmade 470 Emissary that I never use, solely because of the assist.

The assist takes a nicely (small) sized, practical folder and ruins it for me in two ways. First, it is no longer people friendly with the quick opening and loud clack. Second, it isn't as safe to close one handed, so it's less practical in the situations where I like a one-handed knife.

Could you de-assist the Emissary? I did this to my Mini Barrage and made it so much better.

All of the yes. Southpaws are people too! The thing that gets me is most knives could be made lefty friendly with a simple drilling and tapping of holes. The profit impact would he pretty low, and you now have a bigger market. I can see it on knives like most Cold Steel models where the clip was poorly designed so you need a second clip, but most knives would simply need 2 or 3 holes and it would be on my radar, but without it I will just buy a different knife.

Benchmade Monolock with tip up ambidextrous pocket Clip positions.

One of the smoothest actions on a knife I have ever played with but that damn tip down is a big NO.....
