Knives that make you feel kinda dirty...

yeah true, but those real steels are pretty good knives for the price points. least the designs as far as i know aren't copied...or are they?

Not that I'm aware of. Although one of mine has a design feature that seems to have been taken from other knives (Hinderer specifically) that serves no purpose (but does in genuine knives).
I'll try to get a picture of what I mean when I get home.

So, basically what I mean by "design feature" are the cups/horns (I'm sure there is a better term for this) you can see in the image below. These are found in knives that use the thumb-studs as stop-pins (like in many Hinderer designs as well as the Umnumzaan [and I'm sure others]).

On the Real Steel however, it serves no purpose. Almost like they didn't understand the knives that inspired the choice.

Nothing nefarious, just humorous.

Bonus points if you know the book I used as a backdrop.

IMG_2680.JPG Always wanted to check out a Strider, but the dickhead owner and the prices killed it for me.
My favorite company is Pro Tech. When they released this one I had to check it out.
Got mine off the Exchange for $140. Been totally thrilled with it!
Still won't buy a Strider though.
Pro Tech did an amazing job on it......they usually do.
Not a choil fanatic, but this one does work very well!

For me it's the idea of buying my first Strider. I am adamantly against and disgusted by what he did, and I've heard that rock lock and stick are basically guaranteed, but something about the silhouette calls to me. And I hate finger choils so that makes it even more of a mystery. Maybe I can absolve my guilt by buying used and knowing that money is going to a Bf member and not Burger. Those Protech Striders look pretty snazzy, does anyone if they're any good?
Damn, now you've got me feeling like I need a bath....

I feel dirty owning a sogzilla and a sanrenmu land 9103... does that count? Both get more use than my more expensive knives these days too. Oops.

Did the same thing Augustus!!
I was blown away by the quality feel of them also!
They are both among the best flippers I have flipped!!
Amazing build quality too! Great knives.......but still feel a little dirty!! I look at them as guilty pleasures!

I purchased a WE Knife 604 Dragon Scale Flipper with Two Toned Tanto blade. It has blue anodized titanium scales and bright purple hardware. Tackiest knife I've ever owned and yet I love it! Amazing action. outstanding construction and beautiful finish and machining. Carries nicely and the S35VN reprofiled and sharpened up beautifully. Not crazy about the made in China part.

No fake logos for me. The only reason I am considering one is to check out the basic ergonomics of the knife. It is much, much cheaper for me to buy a fake than to take time off work and drive to the nearest CRK dealer just to find out the knife won't fit my hand.

Can you tell me if the 9103 is based on the large or small Sebenza?
It's identical to the large Sebenza. Same blade profile and everything.

good info thank you Sir. no idear on the book?

I always feel a bit shameful about carrying Chinese knives.
Good knives can come from China, but just aren't something I can personally have pride in because there aren't really many purely Chinese companies that have been around a long time that have a reputation for quality and pride in workmanship. ( most decent Chinese knives were outsourced by American companies to save money, which Isn't a concept I'm big on )

Knives from American or European companies with a history of having pride in the quality of tool they put out are great, and their pride in workmanship turns into pride of ownership.

That reminds me of these early 1900's Chinese pistol copy's. They would have non functional safety's and take-down levers...ect. In some cases they could be pushed or moved but did nothing, and in others they were just carved into the receiver. There was even a c96 Mauser copy that had a rear ladder sight that just looked like a rear sight but didn't move and had no notch.
The maker knew these things were there for a reason but didn't know why or what they did. They knew the real deal had them, so their copy should have them too.

I don't know Joe. I had a beautiful ZT301. Even swapped the blade from a 303 that had a detent drilled so it could be deassisted. Had to eventually sell it because of the strider collab with Onion and ZT factor. Great knife. Flipped very well for how heavy it was but it bugged my conscience so much I had to get rid of it.

I've been on the fence with this one Cray.
Been convincing myself that Pro Tech is such a great company that they kinda wipe the stink off the knife.

How about buy a fake strider. It's probably better quality anyhow
As far as I am concerned, stealing from someone that isn't honest themselves, is still stealing.

Robin hood may have been kind-hearted, but he was a kind-hearted bandit/thief.

I hear ya. I kept that 301/303 hybrid for years. Then when all the strider threads kept poping up I couldn't take it anymore. I mean, I knew all the scummieness before that but I finally decided to put my money where my mouth was. I miss it but not enough to own anything strider. I had wanted that strider/ZT bayonet sooo bad too. That scumbag just ruins stuff.

Know exactly what you mean.
You know what though??? There are so many great people making knives Ed. And they make great ones!
Sal G, Brad Larkin, Dave at Pro Tech etc.
Much better feeling when carrying their knives.
