knives that surprised you..........

I bought an import Buck Deuce when Wally Mart was clearing them out. For nine bucks i figured if nothing else I'll throw it in the truck ashtray for just-in-case.

I was so impressed I ended up buying a second one.

my opinel 10
I had on older one for decades , it was good but a thin flat ground blade made it a tad delicate for robust stuff
someone stole it .. and eventually I bought a new one with the new convex grind and daaaammm its nice to use .

I bought a rat 1 at the same time as the new opinel ..gave the rat 1 away ... tho looks wise the rat is sweet , for actual using , edge holding , comfort .. the opinel wins hands down for me .. for seriously cheap $ its actually a lot of knife .

Spyderco Caly 3 was the knife that shocked me the most. I hunted one down for a while since it was discontinued and when I had it in hand, I was blown away. It felt perfect - like it was designed just for me. It will remain in my EDC rotation for a long time.

The Vic Cadet really surprised me too. For the price, the fit and finish is great and it is incredibly useful. For an entire year, it served as my can opener after a fancy store-bought opener broke in my hands like a piece of junk. I have fixed closet doors with it and it has been a great back up knife. When I lost my first one, I quickly bought another. It's a must have, IMO.

I was pleasantly surpised by the Kershaw Splinter in Quincewood...I had to dremel out a little part of the liner, so that the blade would fall deeper into the handle, the tip had been slightly exposed.
But the overall qualtiy and style of this small pointy blade really works for me as an edc.

I still find amazement whenever I handle and operate my RAT 1 Folder.

So what knives have you guys bought that surprise you in quality or function? maybe they were cheap or bought on a whim or a gift.
For me it was rough rider slipjoints they are very well made for the price, fit and finish is very nice for a $10 slipjoint. also my cold steel true flight thrower it's an excellent bushcraft/survival knife it cuts very well for a 3/16 blade and makes some crazy fuzzsticks. and i know a lot of people don't like gerber or BG but my BG scout has been an nice little edc i really like the clip design and the edge holding on it is pretty decent also its so light weight i hardly notice its with me.

so what knives have surprised you in quality or function?

Yup, the BG Scout was a really nice surprise. I expected to return it as soon as I got it, but it has found a place when I'm going for quick ultralight hikes. It rides the best in thin, quick drying pants, where even my Delica wants to jump out while on the trail. Great blade. When I saw the title of the thread, I was going to mention this one.

I'm an old diehard one hand open knife kind of a guy, but when I ran across this old western Barlow multi-blade of my grandfather's. I realized why he used to use it every day on common tasks. He used to have an electric 2-3" stone sharpener that he used, so you can see where/why he gave it to me as a kid. Now a-days I have it sitting by the office supplies, and it works perfect for things like removing staples. Go figure, and I want my next multi blade even more.

I have been edcing mine since June, went to the beach and carried it swimming for a week and even carried it para-sailing. I was afraid to carry anything expensive para-sailing because of the fear of loosing it at 1200 ft high. it never did rust except for the back spring (which was easily wiped off) I have even put a mirror polish on the edge:D

I just got a Sanrenmu 763. Twelve bucks shipped. Im more a traditional kind of guy, but this is one hell of a little knife. Ergos are good. Sharp. Solid lockup, no play. Just. Solid. Nice little fistful.

The pleasure I have with my Douk-Douk when I eat an apple is priceless... And the knife is unchallengeably inexpensive... You gotta have one...

They are all cheap knives, nothing over $150 & as little as $12.99, they all take a good edge & hold that edge relatively well. It did take me a while to get some of them sharp, but i was also learning & aquireing more equip to do it & to do it faster.

The coldsteel laredo bowie, a combat knife of the highest order I wish somebody would handle that knife and not say it's a serious weapon.

Mercator. Simple, robust, elegant and cheap. Just love 'em!

Buck 110. Built like a tank! Super quality for the price.

Izula. Excellent quality and light.

As a brand; GEC. Since I picked a couple up, I can see and feel the quality. Really nice.

is that the Urban Camo one? Are they a nice blade? I've been thinking of ordering one here in Aus, to add to my collection but not sure weather they are worth the $124.95.

Browning fillet knife for fifteen dollars. Sharp and thin , works real well on panfish.

DOUBLE ELITE KNIFE (Faca Elite Dupla)
Sorry,I’m from Brazil, my English is no good.
This knife really surprised me. I bougth it when I was a Young Liutenant, in Brazilian Air Force (FAB), in the beginning of the military carrer, with no money to spend. It´s a cheap knife (about U$20 in brazil). It’s a pack of two heavy knives, Carbon Steel, green paracord handle Wrap. It’s a strong knife (the both), good balance, good for hard work. I used in many missions, for any kind of work, used as spoon, axe, fork, crowbar, hammer, put in the fire, moved ember with her. It’s my great friend and partner. Many military friends bougth these expensive knives, beautiful, like the RAMBO KINFE and others. They broke there knives by doing simple works. Nothing against RAMBO KNIFE and similars, I just don’t like it, in my opinion, just when you need her, in the worst moments, she abandons you, like a bad wife.

specifications:
- Big Knife total length: 36 cm (14”);
- Small Knife Total lenght: 23 cm (9”);
- total weight 754 gr.
I hope you all can see the pictures, I´m good in the jungle, not with these technologies.

PS:
I don't know how to put my photos from my computer. Can anyone help me? I would like you all to see my personal pictures of this knife.
Thanks.

Becker BK-9 for me. I bought it with the intentions of adding micarta handles and stripping off the coating plus a forced patina. The knife came perfectly ground and I love the 1095 steel. Have not got around to stripping it just yet but it sure took out a shrub in the front yard with very little effort. Great balance for a chopper but still works even for slicing when needed.
